Robert Hunter

[edit]

Why was Robert Hunter (leader of a minority party) elected Speaker of the House? This needs to be explained: it is somewhat confusing as it is. 70.61.54.235 March 11, 2013‎

I agree. Is there anyone who is knowledgable about this subject who can clear it up? Nathaniel Greene (talk) 23:53, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No explanation is given at Robert M. T. Hunter either. Whatever the answer is, it's going to require some deeper research... --IJBall (talk) 18:27, 7 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

No Recorded Votes for Anti-Masonic or Conservative Parties

[edit]
So I've been pulling my popular vote totals from Michael Dubin's United States Congressional Elections, 1788-1997, and for the elections within this section I found no recorded votes for the Ant-Masonic Party, and (224) votes for a single Conservative candidate in Maine. Unless there was some sort of coalition between them and the Whigs that isn't immediately apparent.... --Ariostos (talk) 08:37, 20 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Why no anti masons or constervatives

[edit]

Don't tell me it is about vote totals, records for popular vote were always getting lost back then. https://history.house.gov/Institution/Party-Divisions/Party-Divisions/ says that anti masons and conservatives won, and they are a .gov. Pretty good source if you ask me. I would add it but I'm not that good at this interface. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.8.0.165 (talk) 14:10, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:1788 and 1789 United States House of Representatives elections which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 21:18, 19 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
