January 2008

[edit]

I found this article when I was working on Vltava River and noticed the unsourced tag. I've added a significant amount of research to the article and am curious to see what others think. Possible issues:

  • too Prague and Dresden heavy? I don't think so, but I have a bias to the region. I think they were the two cities that were the face of the floods.
  • too little on the after effects? I'm not sure what needs to be covered here.

Thoughts? Travellingcari (talk) 18:09, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ETA: The Telegraph, CNN, the New York Times and USA Today on Dresden, the bombing and reunification if anyone wants to readd them in the future. Travellingcari (talk) 05:15, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dresden Bombing Bit

[edit]

I removed the Dresden bombing part ("a city that had been restored following Allied bombing in World War II") because it bears no relevance to the flooding other than the fact that both events occurred in the same city. There was discussion about it on my talk page if one cares to look for it. If you wish to put it back, go ahead but please give some reason either in the edit summary or on this discussion page. Thanks. Saturday Contribs 23:55, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was the original opponent to removing these links. While I'm not 100% in agreement with Saturday, I understand his reasoning and think a little pruning of this article is better soI'm OK with the removal. I'm leaving the links above in case anyone else wants them. Travellingcari (talk) 06:12, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

GA fail

[edit]

I'm sorry, but I cannot pass the article as this time. Here are some things to work on before renominating the article:

  • The citation needed tags are a criterion for a quick fail. The entire article should be fully referenced and without these sorts of tags to be a GA.
  • The lead needs to be expanded to fully summarize all the main points of the article. For more, read WP:LEAD.
  • The article needs a good copyediting. There are some MoS problems, such as wikilinking stand-alone years and refs (they go behind punctuation). There are also some punctuation problems. Lastly, paragraphs should be longer than a sentence or two...either combine shorter paragraphs or expand them.
  • The "Floods in Budapest" image needs a fair-use rationale or it needs to be made clear that the author uploaded it himself.

Good luck. Nikki311 00:02, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
