League fixtures table

[edit]

I notice that this article lists most of the fixtures to be played this season rather than using a fixtures table and possible wikilinking to fixture reports in team season articles. The consensus at WP:FOOTY and reaffirmed in a discussion about this article on WT:FOOTY#Results is that such lists are not appropriate for overall season articles and that tables should be used instead. Since each club plays each other twice during the season in a home-and-away, I would like to suggest using Module:Sports results to build the table, which would look like this:

Home \ Away AC TW WU SU CU HBU WP WBU WSC
Auckland City 15 Feb '15 08 Mar '15 08 Feb '15 22 Feb '15 3–2 11 Jan '15 25 Jan '15 3–0
Team Wellington 29 Nov '14 11 Jan '15 07 Dec '14 08 Feb '15 25 Jan '15 2–1 3–2 01 Mar '15
Waitakere United 0–1 14 Mar '15 31 Jan '15 13 Dec '14 29 Nov '14 08 Feb '15 21 Feb '15 3–2
Southern United 0–3 22 Feb '15 2–1 25 Jan '15 14 Dec '14 30 Nov '14 11 Jan '15 08 Mar '15
Canterbury United 31 Jan '15 2–2 28 Feb '15 0–1 10 Jan '15 20 Dec '14 2–0 15 Feb '15
Hawke's Bay United 18 Jan '15 2–2 15 Feb '15 01 Mar '15 15 Mar '15 06 Dec '14 08 Mar '15 01 Feb '15
Wellington Phoenix 14 Mar '15 17 Jan '15 1–2 15 Feb '15 08 Mar '15 21 Feb '15 14 Dec '14 3–0
WaiBOP United 11 Feb '15 31 Jan '15 06 Dec '14 14 Mar '15 17 Jan '15 20 Dec '14 28 Feb '15 3–1
Wanderers SC 21 Jan '15 14 Dec '14 17 Jan '15 21 Dec '14 30 Nov '14 1–2 25 Jan '15 08 Feb '15

Any comments, concerns, or suggestions? -- Jkudlick tcs 22:16, 26 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Definitely Agree with this approach as it is just more concise. Fenix down (talk) 22:21, 26 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. Although i don't like the images but that's not a big deal. Kante4 (talk) 22:27, 26 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I was planning to add something like this eventually as it summarises results quite well, however, my only problem with removing the match boxes is that there are no season articles for any of the clubs so there is nowhere else to list each team's matches in a season. The table also doesn't make clear the number of rescheduled matches and when they were played which affects statistics and other information on the page. In terms of the above table, is there a way to align the teams to the left to make the images line up? O for Awesome (talk) 22:42, 26 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with O for Awesome that there is a problem with removing the matchboxes, as they are not listed elsewhere and the table doesn't show rescheduling well.
About the images, maybe just have them on the right so they'll line up?
And also I recall the results table used to be coloured based on home win, draw or loss. What happened to that?
--SuperJew (talk) 07:31, 27 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@SuperJew: All the various colors used to indicate W-D-L in previous tables and on other league articles are technically in violation of MOS:COLOR. As the home team's score is listed first, it should be relatively easy to determine whether the home or away team won. We also don't want the article to become {{Overcolored}}.
@O for Awesome: Moving the images to the right side is trivial - just alter the wikicode. As for the lack of match summaries if this is put into place, perhaps it is time for New Zealand's premier football league to have team season articles? There is club season article boilerplate at Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Club seasons. I would be willing to lend some assistance with such articles, though specific details should come from editors much more familiar with the league, and I'm sure requests for assistance at WT:FOOTY will not go unanswered by others. -- Jkudlick tcs 12:34, 27 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I put the team flags on the right side, making it look a lot better. CRwikiCA talk 15:58, 27 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Not having season articles is not a valid reason for having the fixtures in the article in my opinion. That can be said about other leagues aswell. But are those images really needed? Kante4 (talk) 17:07, 27 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I concur with the feeling that the images are not necessary and should actually be removed to maintain consistency with other season articles within the project, but I'd personally prefer that the regular editor(s) of the article make the change. However, should it become necessary, I will make the edit to provide visual consistency. -- Jkudlick tcs 19:34, 27 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

So, fixtures and images can be removed? Kante4 (talk) 15:55, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Jkudlick:, @CRwikiCA:, @SuperJew:... Kante4 (talk) 20:47, 8 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
In my opinion they can me removed yes. CRwikiCA talk 20:59, 8 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I would ask nicely Jkudlick, if he can do that? Kante4 (talk) 22:01, 8 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I should be able to take care of that tomorrow or Wednesday. -- Jkudlick tcs 03:26, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It's a shame that you preach that you want to ask the regular editor(s), but don't ask the person who most contributed to this page: @O for Awesome:. --SuperJew (talk) 06:38, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
He said that he would do that so i went ahead. He can do it too if he wants... Kante4 (talk) 11:07, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
