Name Change

[edit]

Hello all interested in this article, I just thought I'd run the idea by anyone about possibly changing the name of this article to 2012 OFC Nations Cup qualifying given that though this is technically FIFA's first round for the Oceania, the second round is not designated as such and only states it within the article. Besides that, it seems to me that FIFA qualifying does not truly begin until the so-called third round, since up to that point the main purpose of the matches have been so that a nation can participate in their continental tournament. Just wanted a little feedback. Thanks. --Spartan008 (talk) 12:45, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

OFC seem to have added FIFA World Cup Qualifiers Stage 1 on their page of late (see main page) for this tournament. Seems they are moving in the opposite direction. Jlsa (talk) 12:52, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, that clarifies things a bit but the reason I ask is because I was planning on creating an article for the squads as this is practically a mini-tournament and teams have brought a set number of players with them. So now I'm just thinking of how to word the title. Would something like 2012 OFC Nations Cup qualifying squads be appropriate? --Spartan008 (talk) 13:53, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Or, maybe something like 2012 OFC Nations Cup squads#qualifying. Only one team will appear twice and the finals squad could be added above next year. Jlsa (talk) 20:25, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Great! Thanks for the input. --Spartan008 (talk) 23:03, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What other article for a qualifying stage has a squads section?? None and rightly so because it's pointless! So what now, create squad articles for every qualification tournament of the ASEAN Football Championship or the AFC Challenge Cup as well?? Move the squads section to the main page of the OFC Nations Cup and only add squads for the teams that have qualified for the tournament. Banana Fingers (talk) 14:00, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The qualifying stage squads is a subsection for the 2012 OFC Nations Cup squads. The bigger picture here is that this is a continental tournament, not exactly the tiny tournaments you mentioned and how many of these larger competitions have a one-shot qualifying tournament? None. So, I think that due to these circumstances it isn't unreasonable to have a subsection for the qualifying portion and I'm not alone in this as Jlsa has also agreed. Thanks. --Spartan008 (talk) 19:45, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Obviously it's a qualifying tournament for a continental competition... "one-shot" qualifying tournament or not, its still a qualifying tournament and doesn't really need or deserve its own page or sub-section for its squads. And wow, one person agreed with you, great! Like I said, just stick to the norm... move the section for squads to the main page of the tournament and only add squad which will be competing there (the tournament proper).
