Albert Riera VidalAlbert Riera (footballer, born 1983) – Player's common name is "Albert Riera". As with most Spanish footballers, the third name appears rarely, mainly in statistical profiles, especially those with "fullname" specifications (and never in prose/commentary). However, Albert Riera already exists. Therefore, disambiguation is required. WP:NCSP#Association football (soccer) suggests that the correct way to do this is by adding (footballer, born 1983). Further to this, WP:NC#Multiple and changed surnames – patronymics and matronymics states that "Adding or subtracting a second last name or a patronymic artificially, as a disambiguation aid, is rarely advised." suggesting that the current article name is not the correct way to disambiguate this article. Oppose The player is known that way more than by his birth year. Also his player profile on Wellington Phoenix's official page is A. R. Vidal. Also on soccerway both family names are mentioned. --SuperJew (talk) 11:56, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Are you suggesting that his common name is Vidal, or that this is the best method of disambiguation? The fact that his full name is mentioned in some places is not surprising nor sufficient to suggest that it is his common name. Disambiguation links are based on guidelines, not "next most common name" and in this case there are very clear guidelines. Why should they be ignored? Wikipedia is very familiar with this class of names and has specific policies and precedents to deal with it. Besides, nobody "knows" any footballer by their birth year. That is merely the explicitly stated method for disambiguation. Also I don't believe I have once seen him described as "Vidal" in any prose source. Certainly not common. Macosal (talk)
