No Wally West?

His opposition to Kyle Rayner is well-documented, but can anyone provide evidence that Ross wouldn't let Paul Dini use Wally West in the specials? Chancemichaels 16:00, 15 May 2006 (UTC)Chancemichaels

Okay, almost three months later, and nobody's been able to justify that line. I'm going to remove, if anybody can substantiate it please feel free to restore. --Chancemichaels 14:29, 7 August 2006 (UTC)Chancemichaels

Sentence Confusion

"Although he is a prominent figure for both DC and Marvel, he is better known as a Marvel artist, as much of his best work (such as Kingdom Come) were created for DC."

If much of his best work were made for DC, why would he be considered a Marvel artist? Wouldn't that make him a DC artist?

  • Someone came along and corrected that, but now I've also added a clarifying sentence pointing out that post-1994, most of his Marvel Comics work has been as co-plotter and cover artist, as opposed to his DC work. (If you consider those DC tabloid-sized anniversary graphic novels, the paragraph makes sense.) To me he'll always be "the Marvels guy" but that's where I first discovered him. Fans today probably do know him as a DC painter. STFmaryville 00:59, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Image use

I noticed the fair use tag (Non-free comic) used on images in this article seems to be incompatible with this use. Namely the this tag is for use in article about the "issue of the comic book in question", not the artist who made the image. The tag should probably be ((art)). Also the number of images in the article seems to violate WP:FAIR. 69.72.2.70 17:40, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

"During an interview with Wizard Magazine in its 167th issue, Ross states that his favorite Flash is the less popular Barry Allen"

Is this a personal judgement, or a quotation from the interview? By whose standard is Barry Allen considered "less popular?" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 163.192.21.42 (talk) 22:16, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

move page broke links?

It looks like this move page has left a lot of Alex Ross links now pointing to a disambiguation page. Would anyone care to fix this or should the move be reverted? -Wikianon (talk) 04:18, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

I've made a workaround repair. See Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Comics#Image issue. -Wikianon (talk) 05:59, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
As mentioned over there this doesn't need to be done and there is a good case for leaving this at Alex Ross. I can move this back if people want, at least until the issue is resolved. (Emperor (talk) 18:14, 7 March 2008 (UTC))
That move looks an excellent one to me. I'm sorry to see that it was reverted. Alexander Ross is now a disambig page that includes two Alec Rosses (as well as some seemingly dispensible Alexander Rosses) but links to a disambig page for Alex Ross (as well as listing one Alex Ross). "Alex Ross" is now this article, forcing a link back to a disambig for any other Alex Ross. Since most if not all Alex Rosses are actually Alexander Rosses and are sometimes so called, this article should be retitled Alex Ross (comic illustrator) or Alex Ross (comic artist) or whatever knowledgable people think is best, and then links to this article can gradually be worked on. After that's done, the Alex Ross disambig page should be merged with and redirected to Alexander Ross. -- Hoary (talk) 10:12, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Bibliography

There should be some kind of bibliography. What has this guy done? I came here looking for this info, it would be nice if it was presented more concisely rather than hidden in the rest of the article.Generalhoneypot (talk) 23:04, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Photo-realism?

Is it really appropriate to describe Ross's work as photo-realistic as is given in the opening paragraph? Ross does all kinds of dramatic tricks that are well outside photorealism and his use of color (especially in recent years) would make a photorealist have a heart attack. Ross is really a magazine illustrator in the vein of Norman Rockwell far more than he is a photorealist.75.64.190.54 (talk) 21:19, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

I supposed this depends on the use of the term (and whether there is a standard definition that can be objectively applied), and whether the source supports its use. If Mark Evanier really did refer it to such, then I'm not sure if we have a policy-based rationale to remove it, even if you feel you have one based on a personal viewpoint regarding that term. Nightscream (talk) 22:28, 22 February 2010 (UTC)

Missing Item in Bibliography

Very early in his DC career, Alex painted several interior pages for DC comics in "Sandman Mystery Theatre Annual #1" (10/1994). This should be added to the bibliography.

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by GeneralKwan (talkcontribs) 18:04, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

"The Trust" is missing. This was an 8 page Superman & Batman story. The credits list him as "Story as Chip Kidd and Alex Ross". Pencils appears to be Alex Ross, but maybe Im wrong. Im not sure about the year this was published. At a guess, I think it was an insert in another comic issue. Please confirm if you have more info and update the main page — Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.148.236.231 (talk) 13:55, 23 February 2012 (UTC)

Image with no rationale

File:74 academy awards poster.jpg is a non-free image, it has a rationale for the 74th Academy Awards article, but not for this one. Please add one, or the image should be removed from this article Cambalachero (talk) 17:35, 13 February 2014 (UTC)

Disambiguation

I think this should be a disambiguation page - is this guy really significantly more famous than Alex Ross the music critic? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.157.224.14 (talk) 17:50, 22 February 2010 (UTC)

New sections go at the bottom, just like new messages within a section. And don't forget to sign your posts; you can do this by typing four tildes (~~~~) at the end of them.
As for your suggestion, I personally have never heard of the music critic, or any of the others named Alex Ross. Nightscream (talk) 22:28, 22 February 2010 (UTC)
I had personally never heard of the comics writer. I don't think either person is more significant, and would like to see this be a disambiguation page. — Hugh (talk) 23:24, 18 March 2018 (UTC)

– I'd like to propose that this page become a disambiguation page because I don't believe the comic-book writer is any more or less well-known than any of the other Alex Rosses listed at Alex Ross (disambiguation), especially the New Yorker music critic. — Hugh (talk) 00:33, 19 March 2018 (UTC)

Alex Ross in Weirdo?

In Weirdo#25 (June 1989), there is a 4-page story named "Lost Lüther!", drawn in a woodringesque fashion and signed by an Alexander Ross. The story itself is dated 1987. Would anyone know if it could be a story drawn by a teenage Ross or if it's a mere coincidence? Kokonino (talk) 19:57, 1 August 2018 (UTC)

Self-answer: someone told me somewhere else the Alex Ross of Weirdo could be this one. Kokonino (talk) 21:16, 8 August 2018 (UTC)

New picture

Can we add a a more up to date main picture? The main picture is from 2003. 137.83.201.119 (talk) 20:31, 30 September 2022 (UTC)

Wikimedia Commons does not currently have a more recent picture. Do you? And, do you hold the copyright on the picture? Or, do you know someone with such a picture, that holds the copyright, and is willing for the picture to enter the public domain? If so, the copyright owner should upload the picture to Wikimedia Commons, and fill out the copyright information. Then it would be appropriate for someone to change out the picture on the article. You could do it, or you could make the request here again, and name the Wikimedia Commons file. Shortsword (talk) 22:04, 30 September 2022 (UTC)
