Editing Using bat detectors

[edit]

I want to add a reference as follows:

A Eurobats Publication gives maximum ranges for various species (No. 3 Table 2).[1]).

No comments for over a year. I would like some assistance in improving the quality of this article.

I am planning to move the section on ultrasonic recorders to the main list of bat detectors as the Songmeter is now available. This is an ultrasonic recorder designed specifucally for bat detection.

i also question the statement in 'Sampling frequency' "Research in 2010 observed that frequencies used by bats can be has (sic) high as 250kHz.[2])." While this s true in laboratory conditions, the fundamental frequency of bat calls, ignoring upper harmonics, is much lower. When it comes to bat detectors, the absorption of ultrasound by air is crucial, for instance the practical maximum for detecting a Lesser Horseshoe bat is as little as 5 metres at 110Khz (reference Eurobats)

As a contributor to this article, can I have some guidance as to what references and/or citations should be added? (I have read the help on adding references) Have there been any challenges to the details? I am making a list of references in some of the parts I edited but further guidance would be appreciated.

I would like to add a section on analysis of bat calls which overlaps with the article I opened on Bat Species Identification with the relevant internal links. Is there a policy on this apart from unnecessary duplication? I would also like to cite proprietary softwear and hardware.

Heterodyne detector and CF bat call

[edit]

The article states that the frequency of a CF signal falls due to Doppler effect as the bat approaches the detector. Doppler effect should cause the opposite. So does the frequency rise or is the signal which is being called CF actually being modulated at the source? If the frequency does fall, then I suggest leaving Doppler out of it and just say that a heterodyne detector can exaggerate frequency variations. Am I missing something?
