Re: "Rickwood Field was already linked in the article"

Re: "Rickwood Field was already linked in the article" - Yes, I realize that. I thought it deserved the more emphatic "See Also" because the article covers important additional material. Dystopos 16:18, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Rewrite

[edit]
  • I've started a rewrite. Not much new information, but maybe a little more clarity. I should be able to get some more fact-checking and context soon. --Dystopos 16:12, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Renamed to Giants? and a new NSL?

[edit]

There are 2 points in this article I am having trouble reconciling:

  • Dr. Anderson Ross purchased the franchise in 1956 and renamed the team the Birmingham Giants.
  • As the Major Leagues started signing talented African American players, the Black Barons tried to form a new Negro Southern League with three other Southern teams....The new NSL played from 1956 to 1960 before folding.

The reference for the name change [1] seems legit, so I wonder if they reverted their name change, since I've no other source on that? I'm not aware of a new Negro Southern League from '56-'60 — the on-line sources list the BBBs in the NAL until '60 or so, and that claim is unsourced. Anyone have any refs confirming or denying this? I removed "The new NSL played from 1956 to 1960 before folding." entirely since it is an actual claim. I tagged the "...tried to form..." statement with {{citation needed}} since it is a not a claim of fact but a claim of an effort (I hope that makes sense?). I am still unsure of the "Giants" name change, but anything after 1950 is hard for me to get a hold of a good source. Rgrds.
