Change prison-time

"Not able to return"

Reading up, his marriage would not have been legally recognised as valid in South Africa, and he would have been committing an offence by sleeping with his wife in South Africa but I don't see why he was prevented from returning. It might be more accurate to say that he would not have been able to return with his wife.
