Conflict of Interest

[edit]

I see the article has been tagged for COI - it's not that evident, however it does read like a press release it's true. It might do better with an 'over-promotional tone' tag.

One thing I have a problem with is the "played with" para with the long list of notable bands. "Played with" could be understood to imply that Potts was a member of these bands - whereas I believe that it means he was merely in opening acts, which should be more clearly stated. I've done some clean up, including removing the entire "played with" section, and removed the tag. Wwwhatsup (talk) 17:31, 27 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Use of unreliable sources

[edit]

I've removed a number of sources have been added that are clearly not reliable sources for a WP article. this specifically includes blogs as per WP:SPS. one of them is by a person who clearly says on his blog that he is a fake music journalist. that is hardly reliable! LibStar (talk) 01:38, 16 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

As reliable sources clearly acknowledges, reliability isn't binary: "The reliability of a source depends on context. Each source must be carefully weighed to judge whether it is reliable for the statement being made…" The question is whether they're reliable for what they set out to prove. Flannelette Murmurings would be useless as a source if it was for the idea that Potts is a more important violin player than Warren Ellis or Nigel Kennedy, say, but is a perfectly decent source for the proof of a simple, incontrovertible fact, namely that Potts plays in a band called Cuba is Japan. The idea the author made up the band, and therefore the interview, is exceedingly unlikely. ¶ The other source should obviously have been removed regardless of it's reliability, since it seemed to be primarily about a charity cooking event and didn't match the point it was supposed to illustrate.
