Sinologist?

[edit]

My experience is that now people who are not in the field use "sinologist" to mean "anybody who studies China," not just "culture." Perhaps this is a relic of earlier use: Webster's 1913 Dictionary Si`nol´o`gist

n. 1. A student of China and the Chinese; one versed in the Chinese language, literature, history, politics and culture. Same as sinologue. — Preceding unsigned comment added by CWH (talkcontribs) 12:00, October 13, 2008 (UTC)
