Notability

[edit]

What is the basis for questioning this article's notability? It represents the beliefs and activities over 50,000 Australians. That in itself should be enough to ensure its notability! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 165.12.252.11 (talk) 03:46, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

According to the "General notability guideline", a topic which has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject is presumed to be notable.

The references cited do this, namely:

  • A Church en Route: 40 Years Reformed Churches of Australia by J.W. Deenick (ed), Reformed Churches Publishing House, Geelong (Vic) 1991.
  • Religious Bodies in Australia: A Comprehensive Guide (3rd ed) by Rowland Ward and Robert Humphreys, New Melbourne Press, Melbourne (Vic) 1995.

If you don't think so then justify yourself here! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 165.12.252.11 (talk) 04:03, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, The article itself does not show why (to a lay non-specialist reader) the subject is notable enough to justify a separate article (as an alternative to being merged with an article on Reformed Churches generally) . The first half of the article is essentially a summary of Reformed / Calvinist Church, the second half is a list of Churches and their locations in Australia. There is very little (2 short paragraphs) about the Australian Reformed Christian Church itself, which reveals nothing notable (or unique) enough. Also see WP:NOT, Wikipedia is not a directory. I suggest the article be expanded with better / additional references and inline citations . The first reference does not appear to be independent of the subject. It is unclear what the second one says. Try establishing notability by quoting from these references. Annette46 (talk) 17:12, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Your point seems to be that the article is unbalanced and incomplete for an ordinary reader. In that case the tag should be asking for it to be expanded, not questioning its notability. Consequently I have modified the tag. 165.12.252.11 (talk)
Major additions have been made. Hence I've removed the tag.Sejtraav (talk) 14:07, 7 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
