The tagging of this article as violating copyright by a bot is erroneous for the following reasons:

1) The text of the website listed as the original source of this page is itself copied verbatim from the U.S. Copyright Office's biography. Dates indicate that the U.S. Copyright Office's biography was created before the website listed as the original source (U.S. Copyright Office's bio is a PDF whose properties indicate a creation date of April 14, 2005 compared to a posting date of June 10, 2006 for the website listed as the original source. An entry in the Register of Copyrights Annual Report of 1944 contains text similar to portions of the biography, further indications that the Copyright Office is the original author. [1] The materials on the U.S. Copyright Office website (unless indicated otherwise) are works of the U.S. federal government and not subject to copyright protection.

2) Even if the author of the website listed as the original source of this page was the original author and copyright owner, any similarities between that page and this page are due to similarities in the underlying facts being conveyed, not the expression of those facts. The website listed as the original source of this page conveys primarily biographical information of factual information. Comparisons of that text to the text of this page shows little if any verbatim copying; any substantial similarity between the two is due to the limited number of ways available to convey such information.

In addition, even if, as in (2) (above), the author of the website listed as the original source of this page was the original author and copyright owner, and the similarities amount to copying of expression and not just ideas, the author of the website is the Arlington National Cemetary, of the National Cemetary Administration, a Federal agency of the U.S. government, and any text as such is not protected by copyright.

I think the material in the copyright office bio is normally supplied by the author. Whether it is copyright is an interesting question. Things otherwise copyright do not lose copyright status if the US Government reprints it, but I;'d need to check their guidelines.
more important, the material has in my opinion beeen substantially rewritten. Some sentences I think may remain as in the original, and I'd rewrite them also. DGG ( talk ) 17:03, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It looks to me like it's an official work of the US copyright office, which would be PD. There doesn't seem to be anything to indicate otherwise; taking into account the dates above. I've tagged it as such. – Toon 18:46, 7 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
