Why don't we redirect this article to Clostridium? Clostridia is just the plural, and Clostridium has more info. --Joelmills 23:47, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The biological names don't follow the Latin directly. Clostridia is the formal name for a group that includes Clostridium, but also includes other similar bacteria, like heliobacteria. They aren't synonyms. Josh

Wow, never knew that. My assumption would have been the same as Joelmills. You sure learn some stuff around here! Vilĉjo 00:35, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Report that clostridia and actinobacteria ancestral to double-membrane prokaryotes

[edit]

A news item here reports that the clostridia and actinobacteria merged to form the double-membrane prokaryotes ancestral to cyanobacteria, and thence to the eukaryota. The paper is reported to be published on-line in the 20 Aug 2009 Nature. I am insufficiently expert to know if this should go into the article yet, but if confirmed it would make the hybrid organism an ancestor of all multi-cellular organisms. This stub completely lacks references, BTW; the Nature article might be a candidate. Wwheaton (talk) 15:01, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
