I'm a little confused about the role of the naval brigades. Were these units ground troops or a naval reserve? The article states that they had both 'companies' (which are the basic building blocks of infantry units) and operated some ships. --Nick Dowling 11:02, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Yeah i know where your coming from they did have a wide role of duties. The main roles of the naval brigades was to defend the cities from attack from the sea, man naval establishments and defend them. They also occasionally acted in a role similar to the royal marines in the 18th and 19th century, providing a bit of muscle onboard ships. Regards hossens27 10:12, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
