I have deleted the following sentence that had appeard at the end of the first paragraph: "In shorter words, he invented the telegraph." A number of people may be credited with orginial work creating electric telegraphy, see Electrical_telegraph, but Cyrus Field, an entreprenur with no technical skill, is not among them.


I deleted the last sentence because it is opinion to say he is the greatest man to ever live.

I introduced a reference to the fact that the 1865/66 cables were laid by the famous SS Great Eastern at the time the woprlds largest sea-going ship, and Brunel's final masterpieceRedcliffe maven (talk) 20:37, 31 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
