Associated Acts

Please see the guidelines for associated acts before adding more acts to the infobox. Danger Mouse collaborates all the time and these groups and individuals are all fair game, but we shouldn't add groups he's sampled (The Beatles), mixed (Jay-Z), or befriended (The Shortwave Set). Then the list would be endless. It's about collaboration, not just connection.--Junius49 (talk) 15:43, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

I removed the comments about U2's potential club album, because that is a separate project from the one that Danger Mouse is working on with them. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.233.29.207 (talk) 02:21, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

Grey Album

"However, these two are engineers, so Danger Mouse was that album's sole producer for all intents and purposes[citation needed] (though a few songs feature musical contribution from talents such as Ike Turner and Simon Tong)."

This sentence seems to be non-neutral and doesn't match the objective style of the rest of the article. Additionally, no citation has been offered for the information. The sentence could be removed without significantly affecting the rest of the section. Aesalon 3:35, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

Colbert

The Grey Album's page claims that Colbert mentioned Danger Mouse on December 11, but this article claims it was the 12. Which is it? MafiaCapo 21:34, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

I just checked, it was on December 11 --Master Sel 21:06, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Grey Album reception

"In the opinion of most professional hip-hop producers, the Grey Album's relative popularity can be attributed more to its inventiveness in source selection, and not necessarily the skill with which the two records were blended."

Do we have any proof for this statement? Which prominent hip-hop producers? The preceding unsigned comment was added by 82.92.181.129 (talk • contribs) .

"its inventiveness in source selection"

Ha. Euphemism of the year. In plain English: "It is popular because it ripped off the Beatles rather than, say, the Andrews sisters."

Of course, with this sort of artistic terrorism, you can never quite have your complete outrage. Let us say I decided to "mix" the sistine chapel's ceiling with generous helpings of my own excrement (or, someone else's). You're still going to have Michelangelo's work coming through here and there, and thus those portions of the art can be claimed for the "Artist" who did the "Mixing". Wonderful culture we have. The preceding unsigned comment was added by 141.151.178.220 (talk • contribs) .

well, taht's how it is now. po-mo, man —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 84.234.52.209 (talkcontribs) .

"when he remixed The Beatles (more commonly known as The White Album)" I think this should say "when he remixed The Beatles' self titled album The Beatles (more commonly known as The White Album)" or something to this affect

Neutral Milk remixes?

This is a rather selfish request, but I'd be interested to hear more about his remixing of local artists like Neutral Milk Hotel. It is interesting to me that Danger Mouse draws from the work of such groups, they're pretty far from the DJing scene as far as I know. It would serve to more clearly define his style and identify some of his musical influences.

Also, anyone have any idea where one could get their hands on the NMH remixes? The preceding unsigned comment was added by 128.120.188.53 (talk • contribs) .

This article that says he remixed "The Fool" is all I could find, I can't find the actual remix any where but I'd really like to hear it too --Surachit 10:33, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
It appeared on the first Pelican City album, The Chilling Effect.[1] --Fritz S. (Talk) 14:03, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

Name?

Can someone confirm the DJ's proper name (i.e. the one that he uses for CDs etc.) as opinion seems to be divided between "Danger Mouse" and "Dangermouse" even in this article; especially as it refers to him as "Danger Mouse" who got his name from the cartoon "Dangermouse". And on a totally seperate note, I would also be very grateful if someone could suggest where one might be able to download some of his early local work, esp. with NMH.--Rubie 09:53, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

His website shows Danger [break] Mouse, as do AMG and Pitchfork. Hyacinth 10:05, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
In the liner notes for Ghetto Pop Life and Demon Days it is also spelled "Danger Mouse". --Fritz S. (Talk) 12:00, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

  • Oppose - well I don't really oppose which is why I'm not voting right now - but I think the new title is too easily confused with Dangermouse, whose real name I'm told is actually Danger Mouse. Has anybody considered the disambiguation issues? How about (for this article) Danger Mouse (DJ)? Jim182 21:37, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
Given the article about the cartoon is at Dangermouse I assumed that's the correct spelling (this link, which appears to be official, has it with a capital M, but still without space). Such, I think it would be sufficient to have a disambig link at the top of this article (once it's moved to Danger Mouse) to the article about the cartoon. --Fritz S. (Talk) 23:27, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
I believe you are technically correct about the cartoon character's name, but isn't there some guideline about arriving at the least surprising page? Check out for example the caption in the picture at the top of the Dangermouse article, the errors made in editing that article, Dangermouse's initials (DM), the origin (Danger Man), and this Google search. I think it should be properly disambiguated at Dangermouse and Danger Mouse, leading to Dangermouse (cartoon) and Danger Mouse (DJ). But then I don't really understand the disambiguation process too well. -- Jim182 23:49, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
As it seems both are spelled different I would prefer it if we avoid a disambiguation page and the descriptions in the articles' titles in parenthesis and just have a disambig notice at the top of each article, leading to the other one (like the one currently at Dangermouse). Although you are correct and both seem to be often misspelled (however the two most prominent links on your google search, one to a fansite for the cartoon and the other for the producer's official homepage, spell it correctly). However, if we are to disambig the titles, I think DangerMouse (cartoon) and Danger Mouse (producer) would be the better titles.
(I was just going to post a note about this discussion on the cartoon's talk page and noticed you already did that. Good thinking!) --Fritz S. (Talk) 09:04, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
?!? If you want the article to be moved to DangerMouse, what would DangerMouse (cartoon) be for? If we decide to have the article about the cartoon at DangerMouse and the article about the producer at Danger Mouse we can avoid any disambiguation parenthesis and just put a note about the other at the top of each article. --Fritz S. (Talk) 14:51, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
That's fine. Pardon my confusion. I'm on board with that plan (two separate articles with notes at the top). --Cholmes75 17:52, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
OK, that's fine with me too. I just wanted to make sure that this had been given due consideration. Thanks. Long live the mouse! -- Jim182 19:32, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

EMI reference

Can anyone find a reference to the fact that EMI was dismayed that Danger Mouse was selected to produce the Gorillaz album? I mean, it certainly sounds plausible, but that doesn't make it true. Citation? Taranah 20:11, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Redirection?

Why does this article come up first and offer a link to the cartoon when it states that he took the name from the Cartoon?—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 76.184.241.144 (talkcontribs).

Because the proper spelling for the cartoon is in one word ("DangerMouse"), while the proper spelling for the artist is two words ("Danger Mouse"). If you write it in one word, you get the article for the cartoon with a link to the artist, when you write it in two it's vice versa. --Fritz S. (Talk) 19:11, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
This doesn't appear to be the case: the canonical name for the cartoon's page is now Danger Mouse (TV series), which gives the programme's name as ‘Danger Mouse’, and includes a title card with it as two words as well. Smylers (talk) 11:40, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

Page Layout Change

I'm thinking about changing the layout of the page to be more organized like other artist pages. Objections?? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Enilcleahcim (talkcontribs) 11:07, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Danger Mouse contribution to a GTA game?

The video game "Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories" credits an artist by the name of Danger Mouse with the creation of the game's theme song. The Wikipedia entry for this game's soundtrack includes this line:

""March Popakov Remix" written by John Cacavas, produced by Danger Mouse"

I think it's notable.

The first reference redirects incorrectly. Link should be, http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2006-08-04/entertainment/0608040339_1_cee-lo-green-hip-hop-danger-mouse 98.117.189.160 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 02:47, 3 November 2010 (UTC).

Why is does this get the main Danger Mouse article, when the cartoon came first

So, if he took his stage name from the cartoon, why does is "Danger Mouse" about him and not the cartoon? Since the cartoon was the original "Danger Mouse", shouldn't the article for "Danger Mouse" be about the cartoon? If not, then the page for "Danger Mouse" should be a disambiguation page linking to both cartoon and artist/producer, and not and article for someone who took the name of an established entity. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.228.6.77 (talk) 08:15, 13 June 2011 (UTC)

Agreed, at the very least there should be a dismabiguation page. Madgenberyl (talk) 17:10, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

Moved to Danger Mouse (music producer)

I've moved this to Danger Mouse (music producer). Someone reverted referring me to the talk page, but the only "official" discussion I see was on changing the page's name to match the DJ's preferred naming. There are a few mentions of changing it so the TV series takes priority, but not definitive discussion or decision.

My rationale: The TV series page used to be named "DangerMouse" but has since been renamed to "Danger Mouse" which more directly clashes with this page. The producer took his name from the TV series, so even if the producer was more well-known (which I would dispute, at least in the UK), the TV series should still have priority.

I've also updated all links (hopefully) that lead back here. (edit: still working on that. Wikipedia seems not to have shown me everything first time around)David (talk) 16:13, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

Argh, okay, I thought it was too easy. Way too many pages already link here. I've redirected "Danger Mouse" to music producer though, rather than moving this back to "Danger Mouse". I think that makes it slightly clearer that there is an equally relevant Danger Mouse. Maybe a disambig page would be better, but that would stuff up the links as well. I'll search links here for any references ot the TV series instead.David (talk) 16:18, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

1. When a move is contested, the proper course of action is to discuss it, not to immediately reinstate it. I was in the process of typing an explanation.
2. We don't redirect "Foo" to "Foo (disambiguation term)". Whether the title "Danger Mouse" leads to the article about the cartoon or the article about the musician, it should do so directly (not via a redirect).
3. Please see WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. We don't base our articles' titles on "what came first". This sometimes plays an indirect role (because the older subject often predominates in general usage or has greater enduring notability and educational value), but on its own, it isn't a factor. That's why such titles as The Bloodhound Gang and Belle and Sebastian lead to articles about musicians, not the children's television programs from which the names originated. Likewise, in this instance, it's been determined that usage of the term "Danger Mouse" in reference to the musician predominates. If this is incorrect, I'd be delighted to modify our setup. (For the record, all of these TV programs — Danger Mouse, Belle and Sebastian and The Bloodhound Gang — are among my childhood favorites, and I have no interest in any of the musicians using these or similar names.) —David Levy 16:41, 2 December 2012 (UTC)
  • User:Davidhorman, certainly the case that "Burton later started going by the name Danger Mouse, from the 1980s British cartoon series." Not quite sure how the cartoon page was moved out and the producer page moved in. In cases like this I don't believe there is has to be a WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Pageviews consistently far above other articles with the same name. QuietHere (talk) 03:56, 1 September 2022 (UTC)

  • Oppose. I would prefer to error on the view that the musician and the 1981 series have about equal long-term significance. The pageviews are skewed to recentism because the musician is active now. And I cannot tell from the article if/how much he is popular outside the U.S. (which could also skew the pageviews to a U.S. bias). As stated on Danger Mouse (1981 TV series)#Reception, there are claims about the TV series popularity and reception, and if the cartoon was airing today in 2022 with those figures, it would have likely generated comparable page views here on Wikipedia (it already now is generating an average of over 9,500 monthly views already, more than a lot of other topics[2]). Zzyzx11 (talk) 17:55, 1 September 2022 (UTC)
@Zzyzx11 apologies for badgering you but it's worth noting that the pageviews trend has been consistent since 2015, even when the 2015 series was at its peak for views. That still doesn't cover the peak of the '80s series which is a very fair point, but when you're looking at a scale of that many years, does recentism still apply as strongly? If the series was that huge in its heyday but hasn't been in such a long time, does that not count against it to some degree? I'll understand if you disagree still, just wanna cover my bases. QuietHere (talk) 00:45, 2 September 2022 (UTC)
Yes, IMO recentism still applies as strongly because the musician was active back then in 2015 (see Danger Mouse (musician)#Awards. And I still need to know answers to my other question: how popular is he outside the United States? The UK, where the 1981 series was produced, does not have the population to generate the same web traffic as the U.S. Zzyzx11 (talk) 03:39, 2 September 2022 (UTC)
