Dave/David?

[edit]

This article has stood as 'Dave Mooney' for some time now. Having moved it to 'David Mooney' recently I have now (on request) moved it back seeking some further opinion on the issue. I believe there's a strong case for it changing to David - he is referred to by this name on the Norwich City official website[1], Soccerbase[2], BBC[3] and just about all British media output I could find. Whilst recognising he may have been known by the more informal Dave in Ireland, Mooney is now far more notable for his achievements in English football so going with what he is known as in England would seem the best option to me.--NCFCQ (talk) 22:59, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Article naming should be based on the dominant name in English-language reliable sources (without regard to country of origin of the source). We don't really have a tie-breaker (or a formal way to weight different sources), but there's certainly some bias for titling biographical articles with whatever the subject calls himself. On the subject of article naming and sorting, I just posted a bunch of links to Wikipedia guidelines in Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football#Defaultsorts. Hope that helps.
