Metaphors or Analogies?

[edit]

The "metaphor" referenced on this page is not a metaphor but rather than analogy. I am not familiar with Tovey's work, so I don't know whether he is known for his analogies or whether he is known for his metaphors and this is just a poor example. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 163.231.6.67 (talk) 21:46, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Full name or just Donald Tovey?

[edit]
  • A. There are 189,000 ghits for "Donald Tovey" that do not include the word Francis.
  • B. There are 73,300 ghits for "Donald Tovey" (some of these would include the word Francis, some would not; the ones that do not are no doubt included in A).
  • C. There are 17,300 ghits for "Donald Francis Tovey" (some of these would be included in B).

The clear conclusion is that the man is far, far more often referenced as simply “Donald Tovey” than as “Donald Francis Tovey”, and we need to change the article title to reflect this. -- Jack of Oz ... speak! ... 11:03, 15 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

St Mary's Church, Worplesdon

[edit]

Tovey's father was rector of St. Mary's Church, Worplesdon in Surrey. The church has a memorial window and plaque dedicated to Donald Tovey in it.

I moved this from the top of the page. All new material goes at the bottom of a talk page.
If you have suitable references, you can this information to the article yourself. -- Jack of Oz [Talk] 08:45, 18 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Title of article

[edit]

Should the article be moved to Donald Francis Tovey? Tovey’s middle name is very often, although not always, included as part of his main name. 86.133.243.146 (talk) 01:06, 24 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

See the discussion above - available reference are clearly established and the article is already appropriately named. -- kosboot (talk) 17:19, 24 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Scottish?

[edit]

The article currently has four Scottish categories: Category:Scottish classical composers, Category:Scottish writers about music, Category:Scottish opera composers, Category:20th-century Scottish musicians. But he also has five English categories. As he was born in Eton, one might assume was English. Why was he also Scottish? Martinevans123 (talk) 12:43, 19 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
