Spoiler

[edit]

"Dr. Evil (born Douglas "Dougie" Powers) " It's a kinda spoiler (that he's Austin's brother), you sould warn. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.113.149.177 (talk) 19:32, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia does not warn about spoilers, because it is a frickin encyclopedia! 81.62.213.155 (talk) 15:08, 7 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Influences

[edit]

Does it not also seem that Dr. Evil's speech, mannerisms etc. are also inspired in part by various characterizations by Klaus Kinski? Ellsworth 23:07, 2 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Dr. Evil is a parody/impression of Lorne Michaels, producer of Saturday Night Live. Another former Michaels employee, Mark McKinney, parodies Lorne in Brain Candy (1996). Feitclub 3 Sep 2004

What? No mention of the bizarre change?

"Curiously, Dr. Evil cannot speak Dutch, even though it is the official language in the northern part of Belgium, including Bruges." Did it say anywhere in the movie that he couldn't speak Dutch?

In Goldmember, I believe he says "I don't speak freaky-deeky-Dutch". :) thefamouseccles 12:58, 11 Jan 2006 (UTC)

I read that Dana Carvey claims Meyer's stole the character of Dr Evil from him. One note, searching quickly now, says about this, "It's also to be rumored that Dana's Lorne Michaels impression was stolen by Mike Myers and given to the character Dr. Evil in all the Austin Powers films."

I'm surprised there's nothing here about the lawsuit. Myers took the name and idea of "Dr. Evil" from a character played by legendary costumer Philip Morris. He used to tour and do spook shows in the role. His real son's name was Scott, and his parents were bakers. The lawsuit lasted eight years, with the Austin Powers people finally settling. I don't have the wiki expertise to create a new subsection for the article, but could someone here do it?

Pleasence wasn't in You Only Live Twice

[edit]

Dr. Evil (played by Mike Myers), is the chief villain of the Austin Powers series of films. He is a parody of James Bond villains, most particularly Donald Pleasence's portrayal of Ernst Stavro Blofeld, in the film You Only Live Twice.
Either this should be changed to the name of the guy who played Blofeld in YOLT, or the movie should be changed to Diamonds Are Forever. The preceding unsigned comment was added by 72.139.108.211 (talk • contribs) .

I think you'll find he was played by Donald Pleasence on the Donald Pleasence page and the You Only Live Twice page. Blofeld was played by Charles Gray in Diamonds are Forever. Ck lostsword|queta! 17:21, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't there be more about Frau?

[edit]

In the article Frau, (a combination of "From Russia With Love"'s Lotte Lenya, and "On Her Majesty's Secret Service"'s Ilse Steppat), is metioned in the last paragraph, but, I think the average reader would be still be left wondering who she is.24.92.48.99 03:28, 15 April 2006 (UTC)Bennett Turk[reply]

Spoilers

[edit]

Should a spoiler warning be placed anywhere in the article? I'm sure people don't want to stumble into the fact that he's related to Austin ahead of time.

I agree. That line that says "born Douglas Powers" is such a major spoiler right at the start of the article. Feels a bit unnecessary. 130.243.248.165 (talk) 19:22, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dr. Evil's Life Story

[edit]

I have added as many 'inconsequential' links to this quote as I can find. Surely the most concentrated number in Wikipedia. Can anybody find any more that are in context? Barfbagger 00:51, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

With a brother called Austin, it's such a shame his birth name wasn't Bentley or Morris. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.102.50.155 (talk) 22:34, 7 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Translations

[edit]

Are there any precedents in Wikipedia for such a list of translations of Dr. Evil's name? And unless they offer an interesting cultural translation rather than just a literal translation then I suggest that this section be deleted. Let's face it, there are many more items that could be improved in the article which are more important. Unless someone can come up with a justification for this section I will remove it in a month's time. Barfbagger 23:03, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There are translations for the Simpsons character Edna Krabapple, but I think these cite the interesting cultural differences that you're seeking. I was shocked that Santa Claus didn't contain a list (but Father Christmas does). Possibly some of the MXC characters (listed at Takeshi's Castle)? I can't think of many fictional characters (with unusual names) that are internationally known, so that in itself makes the list somewhat significant. I see no harm in keeping the section, but at the same time wouldn't object to your deletion of it. I see what you mean about direct translations. Hoof Hearted 13:46, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Dr Evil.jpg

[edit]

Image:Dr Evil.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 01:07, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

His scar

[edit]

The article states his scar was a homage to other peoples scares/a sporting accident, but I thought it was a scar resulting from overly wearing a monicle? Is that OR in the article, or have I just made that up? SGGH speak! 20:18, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Belgian??

[edit]

Also he was raised in Belgium, shouldn't he be English, being the son of Nigel Powers and brother of Austin??

Mr. Bush is a fan

[edit]

According to the Whitehouse Museum:

"George Bush is a fan of the Austin Powers series and has been known to raise his little finger to his lips in imitation of the characters Dr Evil and Mini-Me."

I think it deserves a mention since it shows popular culture even infects the presidency...in an amusing way. LostCause 17:32, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article has a significant amount of text lifted from here: [1]. However I can't tell what the copyright status of that page is. Probably goes beyond fair use and needs complete rewording and citation. --MMX (talk) 06:17, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

The image Image:MiniMe APTSWSM.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

Obvious Vandalism

[edit]

Comparing between edits, there has been references to random garbage; obviously vandalism. This was done a while ago and yet is reverted multiple times to this.

  • "...Scaramanga, who has a dwarf servant named Nick Nack. PeNis." Nick Nack Penis??? One worded sentences are obviously fake. Vagina. Penis.
  • "In the ninth Austin Powers film, Goldmember, Dr. Evil claims..." I'm sure there are only three films, the fourth is still being developed. Goldmember is the third anyway, check on the Austin Powers page.

Will someone please revert this, and any other annoyances. It has been multiple times and the "Ninth Penis" keeps coming back. --Michael SumanIpfreely555 03:26, 22 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mini-Me contradiction

[edit]

In the Entourage | Mini-Me section, the article states that "Any comparison to Herve Villechaize's "Nick-Nack" character from The Man with the Golden Gun is merely coincidental". Later on in the Parodies | The James Bond films section it says that "Mini-Me may also be another reference to Scaramanga, who has a dwarf servant named Nick Nack". Anyone know what's true? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jmu2108 (talkcontribs) 10:11, 12 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Fan Page

[edit]

Most of this article is a fan page. Notice the large sections without citations and the pointless opinions, like whether West Flemish is a dying language. I believe serious editors should go through this an take out the unnecessary parts, which would be at least 50% of the article about this non-person. It might be different if the fictional character was based on a novel, or series of novels (i.e. James Bond or Sherlock Holmes), but it is not.Princetoniac (talk) 00:13, 7 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I've now pruned a lot of unnecessary verbiage and repetition from the article. Let me know, please, if you think I've removed too much or if more radical surgery is still required to make this a more readable and encyclopedic article. A Few Words About Hench-People ...

[edit]

Paddy O'Brien was also partly inspired by "Lucky" the "Lucky Charms Leprechaun". ( From the cereal box of the same name.). He even quotes the character, "They're always after me lucky charms!"

Rita The Metermaid is a reference to The Beatles song "Lovely Rita", from the "Sgt.Pepper" album.

And no mention of hench-woman, "Alotta Fagina" ? Tsk tsk! 75.106.219.197 (talk) 19:39, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
