Poorly worded sentence

[edit]

"For many years Rowley has strongly opposed the NAFTA and other trade agreements that she believes threaten public services, promoted public education and medicare, as well as civil rights and labour causes."

English doesn't work like this. The first use of the comma would lead you to believe that you're going to receive a list of things Rowley opposes, but it isn't. The final comma is an extension of the last point meaning there is no list, just two points. It could probably be a list of three things, but the first point would still be in the negative and very long, while the others would be in the positive and very short (making things extremely unclear). At the very least the negative point should be moved to the end.

I could be conveying this poorly, but this is a poorly constructed sentence.

Furthermore (and fixing this would probably solve this issue anyways) "for many years" is extremely vague. Has she ceased these activities? I doubt it, so for how long, when?

I'd solve it myself but there aren't any sources cited at all, so I wouldn't be sure if I'd be damaging the article further. 174.89.61.74 (talk) 15:54, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
