Place of Birth

[edit]

English wikipedia suggests Gassmann was born in Most (Most District)/Brüx, while German wikipedia suggests it was Brno/Brün. Can anyone with better source material than I have at work suggest which is correct? Gerry Lynch 14:58, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Joshua Kosman in Grove gives Brüx (now Most). We usually trust Grove unless there is a good reason not to. - Kleinzach 16:26, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Later operas

[edit]

Gassmann's early operas were written for the Venice carnival. What about his later operas? Were they composed for the court at Vienna, something else in Vienna or for Italian opera houses? This seems an important contextual point to me. Gerry Lynch 14:58, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have added locations from the Grove article. - Kleinzach 16:33, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

L'Olimpiade

[edit]

Different reference works vary as to the location of the first performances in Vienna of Gassmann's L'Olimpiade, October 1764: Burgtheater, or Kärntnertortheater? I wonder if the confusion stems from an original mention somewhere of simply 'Hoftheater'? This would surely be ambiguous without resolution, as the title surely covered both establishments? Whither does one turn for certainty? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Omnivore (talkcontribs) 14:38, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Long-term consequences deaths

[edit]

If his death was from "long-term consequences" of a carriage accident, is it a road incident death? Either way, I do not think it needs to be categorized by place. If we do categorize it by place it should be by being in the Holy Roman Empire.John Pack Lambert (talk) 18:14, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
