There needs to be more detail in the french philosphy section

To justify even having this page, currently just a link page to real research, there should be more explanation of which century of French philosophy to look into. That is, there should be more detail concerning the specific philosophers and philosophies in the different centuries on this main page, the nineteenth century in particular.

Also, it's a pity that there is no page dedicated specifically to French Philosophy in this time. The pages this links to discuss Western philosophy in general, with a focus on Europe. Nothing focuses on France.

Structuralism

[edit]

As is made clear at the page dealing with post-structuralism, the latter is a term coined by US academics in defining a perceived trend in French philosophy. It was not a term used in France by French philosophers until after the Anglo-saxon academic community had established it as a label for certain French academics like Derrida in order to try to differentiate him and others from structuralism. Derrida was someone who mixed phenomenology with structuralism, and I have added the former because France is really one of the key venues for the elaboration of 20th century phenomenology.Rachel0898 (talk) 13:07, 28 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Poststructuralism and postmodernism

[edit]

Most of the summaries in this section are very poorly written. Lacks clarity and elegance and only serves to spread confusion. Perhaps author would care to revisit? Rachel0898 (talk) 12:53, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Mirra Alfassa

[edit]

There are some major 20th century philosophers related to religion that are not mentioned including Mirra Alfassa and Thích Nhất Hạnh. I am not sure if either should be included. Alfassa made significant contributions to yogic philosophy and Hindu philosophy and I think has a strong case for inclusion for these ideas. Thích Nhất Hạnh contributed heavily to philosophies related to Buddhism including philosophy on "interbeing" is said to "provide a philosophical foundation for Zen" and thus has a strong case for inclusion.
