United Fruit/United Brands

[edit]

Wasn't Fyffes wholly owned by one or other of these at some point? Seems like a significant event to leave out...

I'll have to research this.

McCanns of Dundalk

[edit]

I never knew that Fyffes was actually originally an English company. I always thought it was set up by the McCann fruit distribution family of Dundalk. There's not a word about that family in this article but I'm fairly certain that Fyffes is in large part a vehicle of that family. 86.44.42.88 (talk) 21:45, 11 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is an PR article

[edit]

This text clearly is an advertorial and needs to be edited by an independent person. In the history you'll find a user named Fyffes. You can't say they tried to cover up that they did it themselves. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.104.36.156 (talk) 10:44, 20 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Chiquita

[edit]

There seems to be some difference of opinion amongst the commentators as to whether the Chiquita thing is a merger or takeover? Bloomberg call it a merger in the URL and a takeover by Chiquita in the article headline. The BBC use the term 'merge'. The article has merge in the lede and takeover in the body. We need to firm up and agree what it actually is.Atlas-maker (talk) 06:32, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Seems like it's time to start a new article about the merged company and history from this point forward. -- 70.50.151.11 (talk) 07:03, 16 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Outspan redirects here. The only connection between Fyffes and Outspan is that they are direct competitors. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.233.55.50 (talk) 05:38, 8 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Yes, that appears to be vandalism.

failed merger update needed!

[edit]

this article needs to be updated to say the merger did not go through at the last moment (oct 2014 i think). Chiquita got a new hostile takeover offer from a brazilian company instead. Olivier Doorenbos (talk) 15:09, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
