Requesting rewrite

I will be rewriting and expanding this page and propose making the following revisions:

  • expanding the ‘Equality of Treatment’ section and inserting any required citations;
  • updating the citations in the ‘Current Landscape’ section. The current citations are mostly out of date and have been sourced from documents from the period 2011 – 2013;
  • extending the 'Current Landscape' section to include countries in Asia, North Africa and the Middle East to provide a worldwide view on the subject;
  • amending the heading 'Glass ceiling' to 'Challenges to achieving gender diversity on corporate boards;
  • expanding the ‘Regulatory Responses’ section by including data from more countries and outlining both sides of the debate on establishing quotas for women representation on boards. I will also rename this section 'Encouraging gender diversity on corporate boards', with the subheading of 'Regulatory responses' and '

In addition, I will be inserting the following new sections:

  • a short section on the history of women on boards;
  • 'Effects of gender diversity on corporate boards' which will consist of a discussion on the empirical studies that have been undertaken on this issue. I will include a discussion of studies that have found a positive correlation between gender diversity and firm value and findings that have not; and
  • the gender pay gap on corporate boards; and
  • gender representation of CEOs.

Comments on the Improvements

Hi Scowch,

I really like your edits to this page. I have a few comments on how it may be improved moving forward. For one, I think it would be great to include more information on the causations of gender disparity on boards of directors. You do a great job surveying the significance of gender disparities to corporate success, but the state of educated women capable of serving, but denied a position, could be fleshed out more to give some context to how the problem can be solved (maybe at its source?) I would also tie the equality of treatment relevancy into the beginning in a more fleshed out manner. I did not know its relevance until the end of the article, and then realized its importance to the topic. Finally, it may be helpful to either add more details about country differences in BOD composition, or to deal with less countries but in a more significant way. Right now it appears more like a more randomized list and less like a representation of an international perspective, but seems like the countries included deal with problem in interesting ways that could also be talked about in terms of what outcomes (socially, economically) were achieved as a result.

Review of Article: Some Recommendations

Great job on your article! The article gives a great overview of the subject matter! There are a couple things that I think could improve the overall effect of your Wikipedia article. First, it would be helpful to expand the section on the effects of gender diversity on corporate boards as well as the section on female CEOs. Currently, each of these sections is relatively short and broad. The article would be even better if you could provide some more detailed information regarding these subsections. Second, the article could be improved by adding more links to the article and adding links to this article on other, related Wikipedia articles. Some related articles that would be good to link include: gender pay gap, gender diversity, board of directors, and glass ceiling. Finally, be careful to specifically attribute view points and research findings to specific authors. Several times throughout the article you reference "some studies." Russell 1000/Fortune 1000

In the first paragraph it had said that as of 2018 percentage of women on the boards of Fortune 1000 companies was 21.3%. However the source given for this statistic actually said that this number was 22%. The 21.3% figure was relating to Russell 1000 companies. I have changed the sentence accordingly, so that 'fortune 1000' has been replaced with 'russell 1000'. --51.9.0.254 (talk) 18:36, 12 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Cambalachero: disagree. Gender power gap has a large section on political representation gap (which has nothing to do with boards of directors), and, with regards to corporate representation, it goes beyond board presence and covers stock ownsership.
