Confusion between the peoples of Gran Chaco and Chaco Canyon

[edit]

The discussion of a so-called "Chaco tribe" in New Mexico (in the disambiguation section) appears to be a fallacious back formation from the pueblos of Chaco Canyon. The discussion of Solar and Lunar alignements also sounds like Chaco Canyon.

I've edited the disambiguation section to move the entry to the South America subheading and remove the reference to New Mexico.

There is no "Chaco tribe" in New Mexico; this entry should be rewritten to address the Chaco tribe in Paraguay.

The classic source is "Ethnography of the Chaco", by Alfred Métraux. vol. 1, Pp. 197-370 in Julian H. Steward, editor, Handbook of South American Indians (1946). I leave writing this entry to someone who's knowledgeable about South American ethnography.

Chaco Canyon material has been removed. --Bejnar (talk) 19:33, 1 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
