Did you know? If you fancy doing so, I always have plenty of GA nominees to review. Just look for the all-uppercase titles in the Television section. Reviews always appreciated.

One thing I spotted right off the bat: a large part of your prose issues are from translation into Spanish. Also, look and see if there are more reviews. This is a solid short article, but it could be a little better. The prose changes will help, too. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 23:24, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Lead

[edit]
  • The song was written by her for the Mike Newell-directed 2007 film adaptation of Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez's 1985 novel Love in the Time of Cholera. Try "Shakira wrote the song for" and "author" instead of "writer"
  • However, she refused the offer and accepted to collaborate with the musical team due to her friendship with García Márquez. "accepted to collaborate" is not idiomatic. Try However, she refused the offer, instead collaborating with the musical team due to her friendship with García Márquez.
  • "Hay Amores" is a romantic and elegiac bolero song, a music genre born in the late 1800s. I think the item after the comma can be removed; it's a bit of a tangent with the wikilink to "bolero".
  • Lyrically, the song inscribes the kind of love that only grows fonder as time passes by. Did you mean describes?
  • The song has won a Premios Nuestra Tierra award in the Best Movie Soundtrack category. No need for a "has" here.

Background

[edit]
  • In 1999, Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez met Shakira. He conducted an interview with her for Colombian magazine Cambio. Is it necessary to describe the nationality of the magazine?
  • During late 2006, the filming of the 2007 movie adaptation of García Márquez's novel Love in the Time of Cholera (1985) started. The structure of this sentence could be improved. In late 2006, filming began for a movie adaptation of García Márquez's 1985 novel Love in the Time of Cholera.
  • The story revolves around the character of Florentino Ariza and "his unconditional love for the beautiful Fermina Daza and the sentimental triangle that develops with the regional doctor". This is a long quote — can we say this in our own words?
  • She started working for the material of the movie with Argentine composer Pedro Aznar in London, England during the second half of 2007.
    • Working on
    • Is there a more specific noun than "material"?
    • I'd just say London (it's a major world city), but if you needed to keep England, it needs a second comma (MOS:GEOCOMMA)
  • Shakira spontaneously came up with the melody of "Hay Amores'" chorus after seeing an early cut of the film, humming it to the film's director Mike Newell.
    • This should be "Hay Amores"'s per MOS:LOGICAL and MOS:'S. It's not great but unavoidable.
    • Wikilink Newell.
  • No need to state in which country Cartagena is in in this context.

Reception

[edit]
  • Are there any other reviews, anywhere? One review seems too few for me.
  • The song was awarded at Premios Nuestra Tierra for Best Movie Soundtrack. Try The song received a Premio Nuestra Tierra for Best Movie Soundtrack.
  • Similarly, It was nominated for Premios Oye! award in the category of best theme for a soap opera, film or television series. try It was nominated for a Premio Oye! in the category of Best Theme for a Soap Opera, Film or Television Series.

  • This section should have an inline reference somewhere.

Sourcing and spot checks

[edit]

What makes MovieXclusive.com a reliable source?

  • 3: The original quote is "La música de Shakira tiene un sello personal que no parece de nadie más y que nadie puede cantar y bailar como ella lo hace, a cualquier edad, con una sensualidad tan inocente que parece de su propio invento". The translation is acceptable. checkY
  • 4:
  • 12: La cantante Shakira estreno hoy su canción Hay amores en la radio de Colombia checkY
  • 13: Frankly, redundant to 12, but it checks out. checkY

I need to hold on [4] because of an Internet Archive outage.
