Wikpedia doesn't generally include links to commercial sites unless the article is about a specific company (e.g., article on IBM would have a link to IBM's site). My concerns are:

  • All of the links on this page are to "largest and most active honeymoon registries", which is completely subjective. At the least, how does one define "largest" or "most active"? There's no obvious cutoff point for which registries can be included, which is really an invitation to all to be included.
  • They are all simply commercial sites; they are not encyclopedic material to further enlighten readers about what a honeymoon registry is. In general I believe that's against WP policy.
  • Not only that, but all the links are *repeated*, in the article and again in external links. If they MUST be here, they need to be listed only once. Repeating places unneeded emphasis.

I agree with you Elf. I zapped the commercial links. --JereKrischel 01:38, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

While I think you are both right to curb the blatent self-promotion, it is still within Wikipedia policy to allow links to external sites if they serve to exemplify the topic. From the perspective of the reader, it is also helpful information. From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:What_Wikipedia_is_not: "External links to commercial organizations are acceptable if they can serve to identify major corporations associated with a topic (see finishing school for an example)."

I'm adding just the external links back. --User:skmarg 12:20, 19 May 2006

Yeah, none of those links really seems to count as a major corporation, or even necessarily a major player (after all, this is a niche business). I've removed the links again, since each individual one is really not particularly major. I think it would be similar to having a Personal Trainer article, with links to small businesses, or a Yoga article with links to every little yoga studio. --JereKrischel 23:58, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
