Page title

[edit]

I doubt I'll get much of a response, but why is this page title "Interpretaciones del Oso (Menos el Oso Remixes)", what is the point of the bracketed section? Usually people add brackets after a title to distinguish a page from another with a similar/same title. In this case, no page exists at "Interpretaciones del Oso". Examples of such naming conventions include Nevermind, Master of Puppets, etc etc. I'm not really sure how to move a page and the proper protocol for doing so, but does anyone else agree that this needs doing? Track 4

[edit]

The correct title is "This and a Surgin' Movie (Iqu 06 Mix)." This is what's on the actual album's track listing on the back. The amazon tracklist is incorrect. --NEMT (talk) 05:24, 8 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

According to Minus the Bear's website and the Insound music source page linked from their myspace page, the title of the song is "This Ain’t A Surfin’ Movie (IQU 06 Mix)". ToET 23:52, 20 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's probably an oversight on the web designer's part due to the original track having that title. You'll see here plenty of references to the correct title. As I've said before, the disc itself lists the title I've given. --NEMT (talk) 16:29, 21 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Your "here" is a google search on "and a surgin movie" returning "about 609 results", compared with this here search on "this aint a surfin movie" which returns "about 1320 results", all which is neither here nor there compared to the bands' official web sites, including that of IQU which lists the track as "This Ain’t a Surfin’ Movie – IQU". Can you provide a link to an image of disc with the title you claim? ToET 00:44, 22 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
This article is for a remix album, the original album's track is indeed called "This ain't a Surfin Movie," which is why that title returns more results from Google. The title is changed on the remix album, as shown by numerous tracklistings online (which you seem to have ignored, unsurprisingly) and the physical album itself. I don't know why the band and iqu have the original, non remix title listed but it's likely just an oversight. I cannot provide an image of the disc's tracklist at the moment as I'm stationed with the military away from the bulk of my music collection, though I should be able to get one in a month or so. Until then I imagine you'll want to leave the incorrect title on this article, which is asinine and unhelpful to readers, but so be it, wikipedantism isn't anything new or uncommon. --NEMT (talk) 06:53, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The allmusic review (which is the linked review on the article) also lists the correct title, for reference. --NEMT (talk) 06:57, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
What do you know about the Menos el Oso track listings? (I presume that this is the original album you mention.) It lists track 11: "This Ain't A Surfin' Movie" - 4:53 but also bonus track 1: "This Ain't A Surfin' Movie (IQU Remix)" - 4:36. Is the title of that bonus track in error as well? (And no need for the attitude, brother, I am just working with the sources as my disposal, and I assume that you would agree that the listings on the artists own website should carry some weight, barring other information. I have emailed IQU asking them about the title.) -- ToET 08:41, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding the google search, this here search on "this aint a surfin movie iqu" is perhaps more relevant, and it returns "about 356 results". Again this doesn't mean anything but that there is confusion about the title. (And strangely enough, when the search is refined to "this aint a surfin movie iqu 06 mix", its results increase to "about 8,480 results". ToET 12:29, 27 May 2010 (UTC)) Adding to the artists' sites with the "Surfin' Movie" title is IQU's myspace page. Note that the label's (Suicide Squeeze Records) page on the album does not include a track listing, but the iTunes page and the lala page (both linked to from minusthebear.com) use "Surfin' Movie". ToET 12:18, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's the "barring other information" part I have a problem with. I've clearly demonstrated wikipedia approved sources with the correct track title, as well as given an explanation as to why the band or iqu's site would be in error. You've offered nothing explaining why the vast majority of references to the remix use the title you claim is incorrect. It's possible the original title was still used on Menos el Oso for the bonus track, but "...and a Surgin Movie" is unequivocally the track title on the album referenced here. --NEMT (talk) 16:45, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I just received a response to my email to IQU (iqu@iquiqu.com) which states:
'This and a Surgin' Movie' must be a typo that happened somewhere along the way.
I am looking at the split 7" on polyvinyl with our remix of Minus the Bear and Notebook's remix of City on Film.
The tile of our remix is "This Ain't a Surfin' Movie (remixed by IQU)".
I've attached a photo. It's blurry, but you can see the title.
Hope this clears up the debate.

I'll get the photo posted to where I can share it sometime tonight. ToET 00:36, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
He's probably speaking of the remix track's title on Menos el Oso when it was a bonus, not the actual track on the album in question here (this album being released later, likely in significantly smaller quantity). "It's probably just a typo" is not a satisfactory explanation without some massive imagations at work. Typo or not, the track as it's written on the disc and the title given when ripped from the album is "This and a Surgin' Movie (Iqu 06 Mix)." Nowhere on either album is it listed as "This Ain't a Surfin' Movie (remixed by IQU)." --NEMT (talk) 00:47, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
To clarify, an image of another album doesn't really "clear up" anything. As I said, I'll do what I can to get an image of the album covered in the article we're discussing. --NEMT (talk) 01:24, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that a photo of the titles on a 7" isn't definitive evidence of the title on an album, so I won't bother figuring where to upload it unless someone specifically asks.
I did receive a second email in response to my note to IQU, this one from Kento Oiwa, aka KO, of IQU, which reads:
FYI,
The name of the remix that is on their remix album, Interpretaciones del Oso, is:
"This Ain't A Surfin' Movie (IQU 06 MIx)".
It is a slightly different version from the previously released 7" version (Split with City On Film).
I know it because I made and named the tracks.
Hope this clears things up.

I assume that the "(IQU 06 MIx)" in the title distinguishes it from the earlier mix. It is still possible that Suicide Squeeze made a typo when laying out the CD, but it seems more likely that an error was made in some published track listing that was then propagated. 58.147.53.94 (talk) 15:52, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
What seems most like is as the version of the remix on Interpretacions is different from the remix on Menos the band chose a different title to distinguish it. Changing several words while maintaining a coherent sentence isn't a "typo" and very rarely happens accidentally, especially with regards to mainstream published media. --NEMT (talk) 16:07, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps they should be asked directly. --NEMT (talk) 16:09, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I took your advice and wrote to David Dickenson of the label, Suicide Squeeze Records, and I just received a terse reply. I mentioned the "And A Surgin' Movie" spelling that appears on a number of sites such as music.yahoo.com and last.fm, said that an editor is certain that it is spelled that way on the CD, and specifically asked what the title of track 4 of Interpretaciones del Oso was. He wrote:
Hello. The correct title is:
"This Ain't A Surfin' Movie (IQU 06 Mix)"
And no, the title was not misprinted on any CDs.
Take care,
David

Summary

[edit]

On 27 November 2009 User:NEMT edited Interpretaciones del Oso#Track Listing, changing the title of track #4 from "This Ain't A Surfin' Movie (Iqu 06 Mix)" to "This and a Surgin' Movie (Iqu 06 Mix)" and subsequently justified this by a personal memory of having seen this track title on a CD and by the various sites which list this title, as shown by a Google search on "and a surgin movie" (about 453 results ).

A Google search on "this and a surgin movie iqu 06 mix" does return "about 361 results" including pages on music.yahoo.com and on last.fm.

A Google search on "this aint a surfin movie iqu 06 mix" returns "about 8,480 results". The title "This Ain't A Surfin' Movie (IQU 06 Mix)" is the only one used for track #4 of this album on the artists' official websites:

(The label's (Suicide Squeeze Records) page on the album does not include a track listing.)

NEMT suggests that these sites all show the incorrect title, perhaps mistakenly using the one from the original MtB track on Menos el Oso. The bonus track on that album is titled "This Ain't A Surfin' Movie (IQU Remix)", and NEMT pointed out that the name could have been changed to "Surgin' Movie" for the subsequent release.

Kento Oiwa (KO) of IQU responded to an email explicitly stating that "This Ain't A Surfin' Movie (IQU 06 MIx)" is the correct title for track #4 of Interpretaciones del Oso, as did David Dickenson of Suicide Squeeze Records who added that the title was not misprinted on any of the CDs. -- ToET 14:05, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

God dammit

[edit]

I just returned to New York where my CD collection is located and Surfin Movie is printed on the back. This leads me to believe ToE at some point in the previous year broke into my car and replaced the disc jacket. For the time being I'll concede that's the title of the song, I still wish we had a legitimate explanation for where "This and a Surgin" came from. --NEMT (talk) 20:54, 4 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the follow-up. -- ToET 14:02, 12 July 2010 (UTC) It takes more than typing to be a true Wikipedant.[reply]
