Requests from subject

[edit]

I got a request via private email from the subject of the article here (see User:Russ Woodroofe/Pics stats 2023 for background on why) for some edits to the page: he said that the years were wrong on the elections to fellowships (and the years he gave were born out in 2 out of the 3 cases by the pages of the scholarly societies), pointed out that there is a new edition of one of the books, and requested that the ISI Elected Membership be added. I went ahead and implemented these changes, along with a few other small improvements.

He also requested that the AmStat Gottfried E. Noether award [1] and IMS Le Cam lecture [2] be added to the article. I will comment that both are mentioned in the lead-in to the "Conversations with" interview, but would like an opinion from other editors about whether these belong in awards and honors (I do not have a strong opinion myself). I do not think that I have a COI requiring formal processes, but did meet once him at a conference and am responding to a request of his; I would like to take a light hand. Of course, an awards and honors section should be short and selective. Pinging @VaudevillianScientist and Vycl1994: as established editors who have made several edits to this page.

Also: he points out that Nilanjan Chatterjee was actually coadvised by him and Norman Breslow (as indicated in the article there); I don't think any change is called for on Chatterjee. In addition to the former students in the infobox, Bin Nan and Jian Huang are probably notable (as IMS fellows, in addition to strong citation records), and Fadoua Balabdaoui is heading in that direction. Thank you for the valuable information @Russ Woodroofe, I added the award and lecture you mentioned. VaudevillianScientist (talk) 02:28, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
