I think you are missing that the entirety of this article would be more acuratly placed under vegitarianism, along witht he other 2 sentence articles you listed, and not just deleted... IreverentReverend 14:16, 15 August 2005 (UTC)hey hey hey[reply]

Avoiding fertilized eggs

[edit]

"Among lacto-ovo vegetarians who are motivated by ethical reasons, it is a common practice to avoid fertilized eggs as well as caviar because both involve the killing of beings."

I doubt this. I am this kind of a vegetarian, and I am somewhat motivated by ethical reasons. But eating fertilized eggs would not bother me much. To me, it would not be killing any more than eating bacteria -- life is everywhere! My ethics are concerned with the depredations of agribusiness, the waste of commercial meat production, the lack of respect for animals at the time of slaughter, and particularly the abuse of animals during their commercial "life". None of which applies to fertilized eggs. The ethics get very complex; refer to the main Vegetarianism article. 69.87.203.132 21:56, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, I made a minor edit to accommodate that. Feel free to make further changes. StuIsCool 04:10, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just wanna say the current explanation is good. I am also lacto-ovo, but I refuse to eat caviar, whereas I do consume chicken eggs. It's the difference between fertilized and non-fertilized that determines whether or not I personally find it morally suitable to be eaten. Aznality (talk) 00:23, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lacto-ovo or ovo-lacto?

[edit]

All these years I've been saying "ovo-lacto." Am I wrong? Perodicticus 14:30, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Googlefight shows ovo-lacto and lacto-ovo running pretty close either way. I've always gone lacto-first myself. 76.24.21.53 (talk) 02:43, 1 January 2008 (UTC)dan4th[reply]

If Lacto-ovo wins, out, you'll be hearing "lactovo"; English can't handle two separated o's like that well. The Jade Knight (talk) 10:39, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A user recently moved it to Ovolactovegeterianism (sic) citing it as the "proper phrase". Without taking sides on the ovo-lacto vs lacto-ovo debate, I've moved it to Ovo-lacto vegetarianism for the following reasons: "vegetarianism" is the correct spelling, not "vegeterianism"; and none of the forms discussed on this talk page and in sources cited give the term as a closed compound form (as a single word, without spaces or hyphens). Both "ovo-lacto vegetarianism" and "ovo-lacto-vegetarianism", however, have been cited. I went with the former ("ovo-lacto vegetarianism") for the somewhat arbitrary reason that it follows the format of the prior title "lacto-ovo vegetarianism". None of this is intended to be set in stone so if other editors feel another name is more appropriate or common, their input is welcome. -kotra (talk) 22:51, 25 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Picture?

[edit]

Noticing the requested photo template above, what sort of picture is desired? Details are needed. -kotra (talk) 20:25, 21 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • I removed the reqphoto template as I couldn't determine what kind of picture would be useful to illustrate this article and none have been offered since June, 2008. We can always add one back if someone can articulate what kind of photo we might be looking for. Geoff T C 18:29, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks. -kotra (talk) 18:42, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Intro paragraph

[edit]

The intro paragraph has 3 sentences. A full 2 of them are about veganism. WTF. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.1.216.213 (talk) 19:38, 15 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that's really off topic. A smaller note about how it shouldn't be confused with veganism (with a link) would be sufficient, but two sentences worth of explanations on a different topic are too much. Also, what's with this "..whereas most vegetarians simply do not wear clothes made of leather, fur..."? Until cited that sounds like conjecture to me, with the word "most" being particularly suspect. --Stoldark (talk) 17:38, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Currently the intro paragraph says almost nothing. I'm not completely sure, but as far as I know; Ovo-Lacto Vegetarianism is the same as Lacto-Vegetarianism with eggs. If that is true, should information on rennet(cheese and whey), and gelatin also be added? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Frogie9 (talkcontribs) 23:27, 4 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Concerns

[edit]

Is this even a relevant section for the Ovo-Lacto? I think they wouldn't have these concerns since if they did they would not be eating eggs or milk. This section seems to more relate to the concerns vegans would have. 69.158.39.243 (talk) 22:13, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I personally don't think the current Concerns section belongs in this page. It reflects the concerns of a relatively small group of people, mostly vegans. Vegans do not eat a lacto-ovo-vegatarian diet (they are strict vegetarians) and their concerns belong on the vegan page, not the this one. If we did want to put in a section on concerns then it should cover issues that are or should be of concern to people eating a lacto-ovo-vegatarian diet, such as the impact on health of eating a diet high in dairy products or what have you. I am going to be bold and remove the section but welcome dicussion here. Dusty|💬|You can help! 00:52, 26 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
