Manufacturer in title

[edit]

Shouldn't the article be at be listed as Leonardo Helicopters AW249 or Leonardo AW249?? No where in the FlightGlobal article is the word "AgustaWestland" used in reference to the new helicopter. The "AW" in the designation is likely to continue to be used, just as EC was used for Airbus Helicopters for a while. Thanks. - BilCat (talk) 13:26, 16 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You make a good point! Here at Wikipedia we may be just a little resistant to change. - Ahunt (talk) 13:38, 16 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
For the older AW designs it makes sense per Common Name. But this is a new design by Leonardo Helicopters. (As an aside, I predict the AW will eventually give way to L or LH.) If Marc Lacoste agrees, I'll go ahead and move it. - BilCat (talk) 14:00, 16 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Huh! I certainly don't own any article! I created this with AgustaWestland in the title given the AW designation because I don't gave a 2d thought, but obviously it's a Leonardo project. I'm not sure between Leonardo Helicopters or Leonardo though. On the same subject AgustaWestland could be renamed Leonardo Helicopters too. --Marc Lacoste (talk) 14:08, 16 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You created the article, so I didn't want to step on your toes by moving it without discussing it with you first. - BilCat (talk) 14:12, 16 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I had already a reputation of being irascible IRL, now on wikipedia too! :) Thanks for your civility.--Marc Lacoste (talk) 14:17, 16 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

AW249 vs. AH-249

[edit]

As far as I can tell, "AW249" is the company designation, while "AH-249" (note the dash) is the Italian military designation. Generally, we keep the company's designation on most Italian aircraft articles, unless the aircraft is using the US DOD designation as with the Alenia C-27J Spartan. If Leonardo begins to use AH-249, then I'd support moving the article, or if/when "AH-249" becomes more common than "AW249". - BilCat (talk) 05:58, 23 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, this should stay at AW249. - Ahunt (talk) 12:14, 23 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
