[edit]

I proose that the format for ALL the Accident lists be changed to the much more user/eye friendly :-

25 February
The 1960 Rio de Janeiro air crash was an aerial collision between two aircraft over Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on February 25, 1960. In the crash, a United States Navy Douglas R6D-1 (DC-6A), BuNo 131582, flying from Buenos Aires - Ezeiza to Galeão International Airport/Galeão Air Force Base collided in the air over Guanabara Bay, close to the Sugarloaf Mountain with a Real Transportes Aéreos Douglas DC-3 registration PP-AXD, which was flying from Campos dos Goytacazes - Bartolomeu Lysandro Airport to Rio de Janeiro - Santos Dumont Airport. Of the 38 occupants of the American aircraft, 3 survived. All 26 passengers and crew of the Brazilian aircraft died.

Size split?

[edit]

Split - Article is over 100 kB, and should be split by decade [this is discussed at Talk:List of accidents and incidents involving military aircraft (1975–1999)]. Thoughts? Suggestions?--Jax 0677 (talk) 12:28, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Breathless account, lacking key data

[edit]

I have moved the following entry off the main article, as it seems to be half an account. No aircraft types are mentioned, and, frankly, I am not sure what this is actually about.

22 September 180 miles SE of Okinawa. DUSTA Composite Photography Squadron 61 (VAP 61).Approx. 15 total, Marine crew and USN passengers. Ref:Report # 93353-A-23-21 DO NOT expect the US Military to acknowledge this or other events in the area during the same time frame. The news was released by the AP but only found in one newspaper (apparently missed the censorship recall). There are additional military and civilian (w/o flight numbers, ie, most likely Military Airlift) airline disasters (1959-1962) between Okinawa and Manilla which you can find in newspaper archives, yet they are not listed on military or civilian casualty events. Cross-reference newspaper articles with civilian and military air disaster lists and you will see the discrepancy.

Any good historian knows that piecing together history is like a jig-saw puzzle. The more sources you read, the more clearly you can assay what the hell is going on... Mark Sublette
