Why this new list exists

[edit]

I have moved this list from the section within List of multiple sequence alignment software because it only concerns tools that are related to sequence alignment, rather than programs for which this is their sole purpose.

what is left to do

[edit]

This list is by no means exhaustive. In fact, its pitifully tiny in comparison to the large number of different tools that have been developed for this purpose over the years.

I'd really like his list to be cross-tabulated into sections for tools based on their functionality:

  • Static Figure/Report generation systems (e.g. boxshade, Alscript, chroma, Joy++)
  • Interactive editing tools
  • annotation viewing and annotation creation
  • analysis workbenches
  • evolutionary analysis
  • protein modelling

Conflict of Interest

[edit]

I hereby declare that I am involved in developing a multiple sequence alignment and editing workbench called Jalview, which is mentioned on this list. I fully realise that by creating a new page concerning such a tool I have violated a the COI guidelines, but I stress that my aims here are to provide a clear and accurate record of the tools that are available now and have existed in the past.
