Flame Hammer

[edit]

I am a rising artist. Can someone give suggestions?

these artists are all missing! skrillex's kill everybody is a bare noize remix. winside mixed all the "Best dubstep mix" remixes and made Reapers (google: "winside reapers") and Ice Queen and loads of other stuff! Jr. Gong Marley made "Make it Burn Dem" with skrillex. Destroid and Winside made "Raise your fist". Klaypex wrote Gamefire. 101.168.170.162 (talk) 11:45, 6 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

He is currently missing off this list and should be added ASAP. A link to his most current, and highly viewed video can be found here: http://vimeo.com/44878206. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gregg.hannah (talkcontribs) 19:05, 10 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not done - the artist doesn't have an article so won't be added. feel free to create an article for the artist, but before you do, please read WP:N, WP:V, and WP:RS, which are core policies of wikipedia. Kaini (talk) 19:48, 10 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There is also a Wikipedia article on STINKAHBELL, who I noticed is missing off your list and sorry for not signing, I'm kinda new to all this. --TheWalkingLibrary (talk) 11:46, 21 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There is now a Wikipedia article about Gemini and I was wondering whether this might change your opinion on adding him? Granted, it is short but I feel that, as a prominent UKF artist, he should be a pretty essential component to your list. --TheWalkingLibrary (talk) 11:46, 21 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

article passes basic WP:N and WP:MUSIC. added! btw, please sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~) Kaini (talk) 22:21, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Comment

[edit]

There are much grime artists listed here, do they belong here?

probably not. i would like to see this list pruned to artists that belong in the created category, and i suppose eventually deleted. --Kaini 03:30, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've removed all the redlinks, which aren't needed in lists as they can't be verified (as they don't have articles) and also a few grime artists with no mention of dubstep in their articles. I guess it is a bit short now, so probably would hold up at AfD if you wanted to send it there. - Zeibura (Talk) 05:06, 21 June 2007 (UTC)][reply]
Aaah, I edit conflicted with you restoring the refs. Saw that edit just after posting the above comment. Nicely done. - Zeibura (Talk) 05:18, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Kaini. wheres DeadMau5!?!?! — Preceding unsigned comment added by SSscuds37 (talkcontribs) 01:28, 21 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

CHRISPY is also a dubstep artist. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.81.85.247 (talk) 15:20, 22 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Chrispy is not listed because there is no article for him. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 18:02, 22 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

JME

[edit]

i added a bunch more refs from The Wire. i'm in two minds about JME... he is undoubtedly a grime artist, but he has collaborated with Skream on a few tracks. thoughts? --Kaini 18:35, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'd say Tapped (which is mentioned in this pitchfork article incase a ref is needed) is enough for JME's inclusion in the list. The header does say "artists who have releases in dubstep style", and he's definitely contributed something to the scene through collabing with Skream. Also from a personal point of view I'd say a lot of his solo grime tracks have obvious dubstep characteristics (e.g. the bassline in "Deadout"), and that he's often on the edge between grime and dubstep with lyrics. Can't find anything to verify this though. - Zeibura (Talk) 18:47, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
good enough for me :) - i've added him to the cat as well --Kaini 18:59, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

i've added this stub... for now. i've asked the article creator to flesh it out beyond a stub and made him aware of stuff like WP:N. let's see how this plays out... --Kaini (talk) 00:55, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Time to prune

[edit]

one week from today, i will be removing redlinks that aren't referenced. this list is becoming more a spam haven and less a legitimate part of wiki. so if you have added a link to an unwritten article, either write the article (if it's your first, you could do worse than reading WP:V, WP:N, and WP:NOR) or add a citation to the redlink. --Kaini (talk) 01:23, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How about Flux Pavillion, Mt Eden, Artwork, Borgore, Coki, Doorly, Unicorn Kid? Theres loads not there that should be... — Preceding unsigned comment added by RabidAlligator (talkcontribs) 16:51, 26 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No articles exist for Flux Pavillion, Mt Eden, Artwork, Borgone, or Doorly. Coki is already listed under Digital Mystikz. I have added in Unicorn Kid. For the ones whose articles that do not exist, you are welcome to create an article for them and then they can be listed. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 20:47, 26 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Flux Pavillion tours world wide with artists such as skirllex, rusko, nero and Zedd. I recommend they be put on the list — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.211.58.138 (talk) 11:33, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Skrillex, Rusko, and Nero are already listed. As for Zedd, his article does not list dubstep as one of his genres, though dubstep apparently influenced his own "Zedd style". -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 15:00, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Needs clearing up

[edit]

There are a lot of artists in the list that have no real resemblance to Dubstep itself and who happen to be mainly intouch with Drum & Bass and are probably listed due to 1 or 2 tunes they have played. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 135.196.249.226 (talk) 13:37, 11 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think Borgore belongs on this list. He is probably the most hyped underground dubstep artist, just about to break into the mainstream with the "Borgore Ruined Dubstep" EP. I know he's not one of the most influential artists, and maybe his "contributions" are questionable, but he is significant in enhancing the bass drop with deceptive vocals and effects, and matching the "filth" of dubstep music with filthy lyrical content. It may not be enough for his own article yet, but I think he has earned a place on this list as potentially one of the most significant producers of the modern era of dubstep. Ofcourse, but until they have no article then they not belong to list. Pelmeen10 (talk) 08:00, 17 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Is there any point in this list?

[edit]

The vast vast majority of the names on this list are insignificant to the encyclopaedic value of dubstep (having made no real contributions to its progression or conception) and I question this lists use as a seperate entry of Wikipedia. Any pertinent names have been mentioned on the very detailed main article on the dubstep genre. This really is superfluous and a bit of a haven for spam. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.15.36.236 (talk) 15:49, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well such a list can be senseful too as not only big names contribute to the scene, especially in Dubstep. What I mean is that when you write a paper about some film director you dont only cite the blockbusters. Even though a list of Records Labels would actually be to my opinion a better idea, such a list can have its interest if moderated wisely. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.253.40.32 (talk) 11:04, 7 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protect?

[edit]

Ongiong Ongoing additions of non-notable artists are generally from anonymous editors: would it make sense to semi-protect the article so only autoconfirmed users can add to it? ~dom Kaos~ (talk) 12:44, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe. It is getting a little tedious. All of these fans of Datsik, Borgore, Mt. Eden, etc. sure are persistent. While I could place the protection myself, since I'm heavily involved in removing the listing and it's not vandalism, getting an outside opinion at WP:RFPP would be best. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 05:47, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough - do you want to take it there, or shall I? ~dom Kaos~ (talk) 07:43, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I made the request. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 20:24, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Nice one - that'll at least keep it in check for a month. Mind you, I reckon it'll be as bad as ever by mid-November: I've got the page on my watchlist now, so I can keep an eye on it. I know it's hardly up there with pages like Pope Benedict XVI or George W Bush, but I think there may be a case for longer (or even indefinite) protection. We shall see ~dom Kaos~ (talk) 08:14, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I can't edit because I'm not a user, but I feel these should be included in the list. It's fair to say that Magnetic Man has had a significant impact during 2010 and has popularised the genre. Horsepower Productions certainly seem to have pioneered the genre massively at the beginning! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.194.124.164 (talkcontribs)

I have added both into the list. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 22:46, 28 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Removals and additions requested

[edit]

Why is Dillon Francis on here? He really doesn't have any songs that I can think of that are dubstep. Moombahton, Trap, electro-house but not really much dubstep. It is really a stretch to call him a "dubstep musician". — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mocolicious (talkcontribs) 19:24, 26 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Porter Robinson had the Spitfire EP which had some "dubsteppy" kind of songs but he's not a "dubstep musician" at all. not anything that he's done since then could even come close to being considered dubstep. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mocolicious (talkcontribs) 19:32, 26 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

WHY on earth, is deadmau5 on the list? He has so far released one dubstep song on his newest album, and before that he's been known for his housy and kind of technoish music, nothing near dubstep. Sure don't know if his upcoming album will include more dubstep but at this moment I'd call that false information.

And on the other hand, why are some well-known builders of the whole scene (some of them even mentioned in the main article, Tes La Rok to mention one) missing from this listing? Please make this editable for the public or at least do something about it... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Erezac (talkcontribs) 21:48, 28 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I won't comment on the addition of deadmau5 since I am not familiar enough with the topic. However, for Tes La Rok, the reason he is not listed is because there is no article for him. You are welcome to create a new article for him and then he can be added. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 22:48, 28 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
deadmau5 is by no means a dubstep musician imo. he produces rather commercial (although not particularly bad) techno... just because he's incorporated some dubstep elements such as the 'wobble bass' or shuffley beats into a few of his productions means very little - a lot of producers have, and in 2010 the influence of the genre is somewhat all-pervasive within electronic music. as regards other musicians; tes la rok probably deserves inclusion on the list, but i'm a firm believer in 'if you want to add it, write the article first'. otherwise this article could get out-of-control in a manner similar to the way it was a year ago! --Kaini (talk) 23:23, 28 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Consensus for now is to remove him, so I removed deadmau5 from the list, though dubstep is still listed as one of his genres on his article's infobox. I will defer to some editors over there to remove it, though the inconsistency should probably be corrected. Either he is or is not a dubstep musician. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 07:35, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree on the deadmau5, but please do not discount commercial artist. The matter of making one's musical creations ought to be credited for it's quality and that is that,IMO. Nuphlo should most definately be included, as he is a greatly influencing the dubstep evolution, with respect to his mixing of East Indian sounds and dubstep. And "moderator/Administrator/Big voice over the matter", may I also request organizing the artists in (if i may say,) ages or stages of maturing. Please excuse my very confusing request, but for example: Origins of Dubstep-1992~ 1993-1998~ 1998-2003~ 2003-2008~ 2008-Present~ And finally, thank you for moderating this page, "moderator". Dubstep is such a great thing in this world, like very modern "jazz". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 180.131.213.5 (talk) 18:48, 8 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nuphlo does not appear to have an article, so they will not be added to the list. You are welcome to create an account, write the article, and then add the entry yourself. As for reorganizing the list into years, that probably will not happen as that is a very unusual format for "List of..." articles on Wikipedia. These types of lists are normally just alphabetical lists instead of chronological. One part of the problem with chronological lists would be artists that span groupings due to a long career. However, if there is a consensus amongst interested editors for that to be done, they it could be done. The article is not really "moderated". It is just protected from editing from anonymous users like yourself or non-autoconfirmed editors. Anybody can edit it should they meet that status level. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 05:21, 9 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the addition of Deadmau5 again; reasoning for adding was that he uses dubstep elements in some tracks. Well, by that reasoning Britney Spears should be on here, since she uses a dubstep wobble bass on her latest track. The list is for musicians who are primarily dubstep musicians, and I don't think Deadmau5 meets that criteria. Kaini (talk) 15:52, 25 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Missing some awesome artists

I'm not sure what the criteria is for being on this list, but I'm a huge fan of the following missing artists:

The criteria for inclusion is fairly simple: The artist must have an existing Wikipedia article and meet the notability guidelines for musicians. None of these artists have an article, so they will not be listed. You are welcome to create articles for them and then they can be included. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 16:24, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Feed Me, AKA Spor, meets the notability requirements for musicians as he has been featured on Sirius Satellite radio and Pandora.com. They also have an existing Wikipedia article. Done Noisia has been added to the article. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 05:02, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Quite a few artists don't belong on this list. No such article for a musician Cyrus exists, and after a quick search he is definitely not notable - deleted. Mount Kimbie isn't quite dubstep - consider deletion. Some of these articles are for insignificant or fairly unknown artists as well. AntiCommons (talk) 09:17, 5 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Cyrus does indeed have an article, and looking at his source coverage he is just notable enough. I do agree that some artists on this list shouldn't even be on wikipedia in the first place but the same holds true of the rest of the project; I'd estimate about 10-15% of all pages would fail an AfD. doomgaze (talk) 07:55, 6 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The article that it originally linked to was different than the one it links to now, so I didn't realize he even had an article. Was simply a mistake. AntiCommons (talk) 19:30, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You didn't haha. I actually learned something from this, so I'm glad it happened. I've had a concern about the listing of Jon Gooch as Spor considering most of his Dubstep is released under Feed Me. However, with how substantial both of his stage names are, perhaps he should be referred to simply by his name? I've brought up the concern on the Spor discussion page, but no other input yet. Time to prune (again)

[edit]

It appears that a number of artists are creeping into the list that would not truly be considered dubstep. Musically, they certainly do not adhere to the description given in the main article. A term that has emerged to describe these artists is brostep. Perhaps it would be preferable to create an article for this term and a list to go with it in order to preserve the distinction. Artists such as Skrillex should definitely not be considered dubstep. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fiftyshades (talkcontribs) 21:40, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Brostep is an unofficial subgenre of dubstep. The chances of getting an article created soon are unlikely. Dubstep now is very different than what it was a few years ago. Many of these producers you speak of like Skrillex have produced many dubstep songs, even if it is not their main genre of choice. Also, a majority of the artists are referenced so getting them removed may prove difficult. AntiCommons (talk) 19:12, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Shackleton?

[edit]

List should include Shackleton, as mentioned in the main Dubstep article. Current Wikipedia page redirects to Skull Disco (his defunkt label). Does this meet the requirements needed to be included? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fiftyshades (talkcontribs) 21:45, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, this is an opened message without ego because anonymus, I would like to say the selection you make of the artist which are dubstep and which aren't is just against the rule of wikipedia and elitist. for have play in a lot a land now @ 25, and make discovers dubstep to a lot of people by my tunes i consider i could be considered as an international dubstep artist. your selection isn't right, abusive. influenced by this strange war between 'brostep' and 'dubstep', where 'underground' dj consider some producers not equal to their 'art'. Guyz like Joe nice even they are good dj do not have the right to say what to do to the others, music don't work like that and people openmind know it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.101.41.104 (talk) 04:11, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Have you guys considered adding Gemini to the list? He makes some pretty smooth dubstep.

Description of and link to my favorite song by them.

Link above is a post made by an administrator of the website "NewDubstep.com"

Website name say it all.

There does not appear to be a Wikipedia article on Gemini, the dubstep group, available to link to, therefore it can not be added (no dubstep group is listed at Gemini#Performers). You are welcome to create the article or point out the existing article. Only artists with existing articles are listed in the list. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 16:25, 27 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Gemini is on UKF so should be added cause it is like missing legendary dubstep producer such as Skream, Datsik, Nero, 12th planet, Amdukias, Kill the noize. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.51.134.179 (talk) 21:01, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Again, Gemini is not listed because there is no Wikipedia article on him. Once an article on him is created, he can be listed here. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 21:11, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Downlink And butch clancy — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.102.82.91 (talkcontribs) 05:54 12, February 2012 (UTC)

Neither of these artists have articles on Wikipedia. You are welcome to create the article about them and then they can be added. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 06:00, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

legendary dubstep producer such as Skream, Datsik, Nero, 12th planet, Amdukias, Kill the noize, Skrillex

[edit]

Would love more details here on all of those — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.51.134.179 (talk) 20:59, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

All of these artists except for Amdukias and Kill the noize are already listed in the article. Amdukias and Kill the noize are not listed because neither of them have articles. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 21:11, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
i really want to AGF but this seems to me to be part of an effort to get the non-notable artist Amdukias a degree of recognition on wiki. see [1], [2], [3], and many others across a range of electronic music articles. 00:23, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

This page is missing the artist Deadmau5. On his wiki page it even states that he is part of the Dubstep genre. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deadmau5

Teloses (talk) 22:11, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Deadmau5 makes electro-house with a few dubstep influences. he's certainly not primarily a dubstep artist. see previous discussion on this talk page. Kaini (talk) 23:01, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: Per the discussion. It would be good to have a reliable source for whether he is or is not a dubstep musician. I get really nervous following consensus that includes a lot of "IMO"s. Celestra (talk) 23:07, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Tempah

[edit]

Tinie Tempah (Patrick Chukwuemeka Okogwu) is an accredited English rapper. He made his first mixtape in 2007 with 28 songs, freestyles and remixes, featuring Mz Bratt, Chipmunk and G-Unit. His first album, Disc-Overy, debuted at number one on 10 October 2010 and was preceded by the number-one singles "Pass Out" and "Written in the Stars" and the UK Top 5 hits "Frisky" and "Miami 2 Ibiza". Patrick was born in London, England on 7 November 1988, and lived on the Aylesbury Estate in South East London until he was 12 with his parents and three younger siblings. He therefore should be accredited as a major dubstep artist and musician, more so on one of the world's greatest information sites. I hope my cause is answered for. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.148.247.57 (talk) 19:54, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

tinie tempah is a grime mc, not a dubstep musician. his article supports this. Kaini (talk) 22:33, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Mt Eden just recently got a Wikipedia page, anyone think they should be listed here? I'm not quite sure myself, since they aren't even signed and haven't released any real singles. But they do have a relatively big online following... Here's their Wikipedia page. --WaendchenWand (talk) 15:39, 19 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have added the article to list. As for if Mt Eden is notable enough for inclusion on Wikipedia, I will defer to others to determine that. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 02:11, 27 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

the list is missing like a million artists like cookie monsta — Preceding unsigned comment added by Omer KAMI (talkcontribs) 15:46, 13 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Artists can be added to the list when they have articles on Wikipedia. Cookie Monsta does not currently have an article. You are welcome to create one and then it can be added. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 17:50, 13 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

please add Cragga!

[edit]

In this page Cragga is missing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 37.117.131.99 (talk) 16:49, 23 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please take out all the bro step artist and make a new list for them called bro step artist they have nothing to do with dubstep and are defenitly NOT importend for that music they are BAD for that music because its only a media hype to call them dubstep, people don't get what dubstep is because of such artists and such things like this list wich is not correct are the results of this mistake of the media to call skrillex dubstep .... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2003:4C:6F1C:4188:929:92B9:D8AB:68C0 (talk) 18:02, 19 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: This list has a pre-page requirement. Flame Hammer does not exist so you cannot be listed here. In addition, Wikipedia is not here to promote you. All articles must prove that they meet our criteria for inclusion. Our criteria is, discussion in multiple independent reliable sources.
