Flippancy

[edit]

Many of these entries (such as that for Blues Brothers 2000), are incredibly flippant. I'll be looking into fixing as many as I see, but something to look out for, this (mild?) vandalism.

Additions

[edit]

Arnold Schwarzenegger injured his back and knee ligaments (from a camel kick) during filming of early 80's Conan the Barbarian. (source: imdb.com)

Harrison Ford has injured himself multiple times. He tore his ACL after a plane ran over his leg in 1981's Indian Jones. He tore the ACL in the other knee during the filming of 1993's Fugitive. He has also has a signifant back injury that required surgery during Indiana Jones (1984). He also sustained a shoulder injury during rehearsals for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023).

While actor Gary Sinise was on CSI: New York, he pulled muscles on at least two occasions, and also came close to drowning during an underwater sequence. He mentioned those in his book Proud American. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 35.131.37.50 (talk) 22:06, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Paul Walker tore his ACL during Fast and Furious 6 (2013).

Jackie Chan has suffered innumerable injuries.

Jason Stratham has suffered numerous injuries in film including a torn meniscus which chronically swells.

Denzel Washington tore up his knee (meniscus; cartilage) during preparation for He Got Game (1998). He did not have full range of motion during the filming of the movie. He since has chronic knee problems. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:5B0:26FF:2EF0:0:0:0:3A (talk) 17:57, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wrestling?

[edit]

Why are wrestling events, pay per view ones at that, included in this article about " film accidents " ?

If no one objects I may just go through and remove them all. gh5046 (talk) 00:00, 8 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Before we begin, why do you propose to remove the pro wrestling events? - Areaseven (talk) 00:19, 8 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Considering the nature of the business, there are probably enough wrestling accidents to merit their own page. TheNeutroniumAlchemist (talk) 23:19, 13 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I agree on that as this is already an overloaded article consisting of those that is of a less serious (that shouldn't be included), the wrestling part warrants its own list. Donnie Park (talk) 18:23, 20 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I already clipped it. Even with a move to List of TV and film accidents wrestling wouldn't belong. While wrestling is fake it is not fake. The athleticism is real. Of those listed only the Owen Hart incident really compares. Most of the others compare more to injuries in other sports related competitions such as some football injury.-Serialjoepsycho- (talk) 21:54, 30 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I don't want to say it is fake because it is a topic best dealt by the Oxbridge debating clubs and Owen Hart's death was obviously unintended (because I remembered the news associated with it), my concern of this list is the size. I feel overall, the minor injuries one should be removed. Keep the deaths, the serious injuries (like so many of the infamous Jackie Chan accidents) and those involving the bigger liability (e.g the star actor). The other issue is that the article stunt performer has its own list for those who were fatally injured. Donnie Park (talk) 16:26, 7 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps a better solution would be for wrestling accidents to have a separate article. - Areaseven (talk) 00:33, 8 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
My point was that only Owen Hart's death compares to the other listings as it wasn't sports related. Every other wrestling inury is sports related. And I hear your concern about the list size but honestly they won't quit making movies and they want quit doing stunts. This list will continue to grow unless the world is destroyed. Jackie Chan shouldn't be excluded but perhaps some of his accidents should be. This is best left to editorial judgement and common sense.-Serialjoepsycho- (talk) 05:04, 10 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Possible Move?

[edit]

Should we open a discussion on moving this article to List of Film and Television Accidents? Sounds more appropriate. Winston Spencer (talk)

A couple possible additions

[edit]

Here a couple to consider adding. First, I heard on AMC (American Movie Classics, a cable television network that shows movies and some original programming) Frank Sinatra got injured while filming the original film version of The Manchurian Candidate. It was during the scene in which he fought with the servant/spy that he recognized as being involved in their conditioning somehow. He started throwing punches and asking questions. At one point he punched through a table. He thought that the table was the fake, easily breakable kind used for movie fights, but it turned out it was a real table. Ol' Blue Eyes broke a finger or two as a result. The other one was a story I read in the weekly TV booklet that comes with our newspaper. Breaking Bad was just starting and so there was an article about Bryan Cranston. It's been a while, so I apologize if I'm misremembering the story. It said that he once played a corpse on an episode of The X-Files (meaning this probably would have been the 1990s). The scene was they found a body in the desert, and there they were filming in the desert heat with Bryan lying face down on the highway pavement. When they were finished, Bryan got up and his face was burned. The surprised crew asked why he didn't ask to stop the shoot and he replied that he wanted to finish the scene. If those stories can be confirmed, then they might make good additions to this article. If they're just rumors, then I apologize. Evernut (talk) 15:47, 10 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Maria Perschy

[edit]

Maria Perschy was a beautiful Austrian/German actress who was severely burned in 1971 while making a movie in Spain. I don't know which movie, maybe "Murders In The Rue Morgue". She was in "633 Squadron" and "Man's Favorite Sport". 50.202.81.2 (talk) 23:38, 7 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Typical idiotic list

[edit]

Example:

Fury (2014). During filming in Oxfordshire, a stuntman was accidentally stabbed in the shoulder by a bayonet during rehearsals.

Who gives a fuck? Let's have List of construction accidents, listing every carpenter, electrician, or ditchdigger who got hurt building something anywhere in the world. It would be no less boring and no less informative. Talk about fancruft! EEng 05:52, 6 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

So fix it, nominate it for AFD or move onto something else that doesn't irritate you so much. The Rambling Man (talk) 17:57, 6 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I hadn't realized those were my options. EEng 17:59, 6 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Your other option was to be constructive. But that doesn't seem to be a consideration, just let the humour do the "talking". The Rambling Man (talk) 18:12, 6 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
This kind of fancruft often has implacable defenders of the kind I'm disinclined to take on. I was hoping to encourage some other editor, more inclined to taking on such a battle, to do so. EEng 20:41, 6 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, by calling it idiotic. Brilliant. The Rambling Man (talk) 20:52, 6 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
For god's sake, can you please direct your personal coaching at someone else? EEng 21:30, 6 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I tell you what, take your attempts at humour to some other website, and I'll agree to stop personally coaching. Deal? The Rambling Man (talk) 19:38, 7 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, that sure put me in my place. EEng 12:14, 11 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, calling people idiots. That sure helps your position. Czolgolz (talk) 12:27, 11 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • More idiot entries:
  • The Alamo (1960). Actor Laurence Harvey, who played Colonel W B Travis, was injured when a cannon recoiled whilst firing, with one of the wheels rolling over his foot, fracturing it. He did not reveal his injury until filming of the scene was completed.[1]
  • Spartacus (1960). Actor Charles McGraw suffered a broken jaw on the set of the Roman epic. During the revolt at the Gladiator school, Spartacus (Kirk Douglas) is seen forcing the head of evil trainer Marcellus (McGraw) into a cauldron of soup, drowning him. McGraw's jaw struck the rim of the pot, sustaining a fracture but he managed to continue the scene nonetheless.

Remove 1950s: The Conquerer (1956)

[edit]

The entry about the cancer rate among the cast and crew of The Conquerer should be deleted. It says that 41.36% (91 out of 220) of the cast and crew developed some form of cancer within 25 years of making the film and implies that this has something to do with nuclear weapons testing done 3 years before filming and 137 miles "upwind". According to the American Cancer Society, 42.05% of men and 37.58% of women in the United States will develop some form of cancer. Apparently, the nuclear weapons testing had no noticeable effect on the rate of cancer among the cast and crew of the film. Cancer is just that pervasive. Large revision

[edit]

This list was incredibly overcrowded and just packed to the brim with absolutely trivial injuries. It just was not informational or readable, and I assure you no one is looking to find out about every single little injury ever to befall any actor in any film or show anywhere in the world. They are just too common and everyday to be listed. Especially fight or action scene injuries - they are far too numerous to be on a list like this. For example, there were a LOT of Jackie Chan injuries on here. Don't get me wrong, I love Jackie Chan - but he hurt himself in some way on pretty much every film set of his early career. That was the nature of what he did! That information would be better on his own page rather than crowding this list. For informational purposes, we need to be a lot more conservative about adding to this list, and stick to things like major mechanical failures, fatalities, life-threatening or permanent injuries, et cetera. So, I took the liberty of cutting this list down significantly to make it more interesting and accessible to the reader. It's still pretty long, but it's better. Apriljennifer (talk) 15:53, 11 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The large delete: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_film_and_television_accidents&diff=868337927&oldid=866694048
They might have been small injuries but many of them seem to have been properly sourced. It is sad to see the good faith efforts of other editors deleted when it is was properly sourced. Lots of those entries could still be added back if anyone ever decides to reorganize this article differently, perhaps by splitting it. -- 109.79.173.14 (talk) 07:00, 14 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Across the Border (1914) - that's not quicksand

[edit]

As was pointed out on reddit, bystanders judged what happened to be due to there being quicksand, but what those same bystanders describe isn't how quicksand behaves. 1Veertje (talk) 05:14, 4 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Illnesses shouldn't be included

[edit]

This list is supposed to be accidents and mishaps occurring during filming. The example of John Rhys-Davies nearly dying from cholera during filming of Raiders of the Lost Ark doesn't belong here, as he could have just as easily caught that taking a holiday. Likewise any other examples involving illness should be trimmed - at least those one would consider naturally caused. The radiation-related illnesses that allegedly befell the cast of The Conqueror are legit for this list. 70.73.90.119 (talk) 05:07, 29 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Disagree. Such illnesses should be included when they are an accidental result of hazardous working conditions on a film set or prove to be based on some other mishap. But, AFAIK, Rhys-Davies illness was only rumored or suspected to have been cholera and at that it does not qualify for inclusion.--13:03, 21 October 2022 (UTC) 2003:CA:3F0A:2030:957D:D780:3792:37C6 (talk) 13:03, 21 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Django Unchained

[edit]

I might be in the wrong, but I think I remember a cast member saying in an interview that fake blood was wiped onto Brunhilda’s face, not Candy’s actual blood. This would change the part saying DiCaprio used his blood “as a prop”. TheXug (talk) 01:08, 14 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately "I think I remember" is not a reliable source. Shantavira|feed me 14:01, 3 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

I tried doing some research on the injury that happened when filming the avengers (number 279). the link brought me to the website but the page was not found. looking into some links from that website or others with the same issues wouldn't hurt. 04:23, 18 June 2023 (UTC)

The Return of the Hobbit

[edit]

Hi there! Now, I’m not well-versed with Wikipedia’s revision mechanics, not well enough to locate specific revisions at least, but at one point The Hobbit had its entry removed from the list due to it specifically being animal-related and not people-related. I can’t find who added it back, but was there good reasoning for that or should it be removed?

Apologies for the bother, I’m just trying to make sure things are how they should be! ProngoWinner (talk) 23:32, 4 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ben-Hur death

[edit]

This is a myth. The source cited for it is literally to a Snopes article about it being fake. 2601:603:4C7E:810:C66:E9CF:B018:6733 (talk) 17:06, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Light Brigade Charge vs Boots On

[edit]

Noted the cite challenge to impaled on sword 1936 fall to Flynn's story in his bio. There continues to be confusion over his friend Bill Meade (or Mead) and extra Bulhong who is mentioned in contemporary news accounts about later film They Died with their Boots On. There could have been 2 similar falls or Flynn was just misremembering. Someone might check Niven's bio to see his version. IMDB (although not an official wiki source) also lists 2 other extras/stuntmen that died in 1941 from accidents associated with Boots their only known credit. Its rumored unqualified/older riders were recruited or extras claimed they could ride. GBS2 (talk) 01:27, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
