Revamping

[edit]

I am going to make this page look similar to the List of Pennsylvania state parks, and then have to fill in the information from there.--Kranar drogin 10:53, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Illinois Nature Preserves System

[edit]

Shouldn't Illinois Nature Preserves be included on this list?

ZFT (talk) 04:19, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Though they might have to be spread across several sublists, as some are state-owned, county-owned, privately-owned, etc. ZFT (talk) 04:23, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Separating Nature Preserves from State Natural Areas

[edit]

State Natural Areas, State Forests, State Fish & Wildlife Areas, and State Recreation Areas are all (if I understand correctly) treated as subtypes of State Park by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources; they are all (the categories, not necessarily every member of every category (see below)) placed on the list of State Parks at the IDNR website.

Illinois Nature Preserve”, on the other hand, is a status that can be given to natural areas of the highest quality, which need not be IDNR property (i.e, some are part of county-level forest preserve districts, some are owned by NGOs, etc.).

In other words, I think the Nature Preserves should be in a separate table or list. (I would do it myself, but I’m not that experienced with Wikipedia table formatting.) ZFT (talk) 07:24, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Something that should be noted: not all State Natural Areas are included on the IDNR’s list of State Parks, though they are on the I-View map. ZFT (talk) 00:26, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Update: Did the separation myself. ZFT (talk) 06:53, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

IUCN Protected Area Categorization of State Fish and Wildlife Areas

[edit]

The Wikipedia articles of most SFWAs count them at category IV areas; however, the purpose of category IV is the protection of "particular species or habitats"[1], while several, if not most, SFWAs protect multiple species and habitats. ZFT (talk) 05:21, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
