I like this attempt to group them, along with vertex figure page as well. My only concern is "too many copies" of data risks errors being introduced or not fully corrected if an error is found in one place.

Eventually when there's one article per uniform polyhedron, then a page like this can just link to the article and skip the data.

I wish we could just scan the list of uniform polyhedra table and create automatic stub articles. Apparently it can be done with some sort of script, but I don't have time (or apparent will) to see how. Tom Ruen 07:41, 20 January 2006 (UTC) (p.s. I'm not really here since I promised I'd take a 2 week vacation from wikipedia!)[reply]

Yes this is a good point. I think there may be some fun trick which could be done with templates. We could have either one template for each poly an just include them in the tables

{| class="wikitable"
|-
|{{Tetrahedron}}
|{{Octohedron}}
|{{Cube}}
|{{Icosohedron}}
|{{Dodecahedron}}
|-
.....
|}

Developing this it could be posible to build a sort of database using templates, which could hold the various properties, and display the required properties

|{{SmallPolyBox|Tetrahedron}}

I'll have a think. Enjoy your wikibreak. --Salix alba (talk) 08:47, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tom, have a look at User:Pfafrich/test here I've used a two layer template system there is one template per polyhedron

and two templates defining how to display the polyhedra

A callback mechanism is used. The method to display the polyhedron is passed as the first argument to the template

{{Polyhedra T|Polyhedra smallbox}}
{{Polyhedra T|Polyhedra row}}

this allows different styles to be used for the display. --Salix alba (talk) 13:22, 21 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If I were really here, I'd say this has great potential! Great start! I would wish a LIST of template objects could be declared in one place (file/article) for compactness, and referenced elsewhere. Tom Ruen 19:56, 21 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes it can be done there are various m:Help:Advanced templates methods and a switch statment is available. They do have an impact on server load and seem a bit hacky. I've asked for some advice on meta.

It should be easy enough to create a category with all the templates in. --Salix alba (talk) 02:21, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image updates

[edit]

Salix alba, here's important updates:

  1. Image:Truncated great dodecahedron.png is replaced by Image:Great truncated dodecahedron.png
  2. Convex *.jpg images also exist now as png, with _ added between words.
  3. Also named changed: (Versions w/o uniform are now convex forms!)
