Meeting Mandela

[edit]

Deleted reference to scholars being "afforded the opportunity to meet Mandela". 1. It isn't stated as part of the official package. 2. The phrase seems to be an attempt to promote the scholarship. 3. There is no evidence that it has happened after 2010.

Perhaps, when the article is fully developed to reflect broader/more perspectives on the scholarship's prestige (or lack thereof), such a statement can be brought in again.Jamesneilanderson (talk) 12:51, 24 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hang on

[edit]

Article is on a notable subject and verifiable sources have been included. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dele1234 (talkcontribs)

Though most of the references are primary sources, the fact that one of them is a third-party news story means the article passes A7, and I've removed that criterion. However, the article still reads like an advertisement and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopaedic, and since you have a clear conflict of interest with the subject you should wait until someone else writes an article about the subject. I'm trying to find something to salvage, but all it's doing is describing how to get the scholarship and who can get one, while casting it in a positive light; it's not encyclopaedic and is going to need to be deleted or stubified (that is, reduced to the most basic, factual information about it until it can be expanded neutrally and with encyclopaedic coverage. GiftigerWunsch [TALK] 09:27, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree strongly, Giftiger. It clearly needs more and better sources, but it's far from a spam page. It's, for the most part, just stating verifiable facts, and doesn't have the propagandaness of true spam articles. I'm deleting the speedy delete tag, but placing a "reads like advertisement" tag. I am removing the "not appropriate for an encyclopedia tag". If you disagree, place the tag back but please mention why. Thanks Dondegroovily for constructive criticism. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dele1234 (talkcontribs) 18:59, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

COI tag

[edit]

Just to make it clear, the reason for the COI tag is because User:Dele1234 was created since the user's original account, User:Mrfoundation was softerblocked for representing the Mandela Rhodes Foundation. The user therefore has a fairly evident conflict of interest with the subject. I have no objection to the tag being removed if the user agrees to let others deal with the article's content instead and the existing content's neutrality issues are resolved, but at least for the moment the conflict of interest tag is relevant.
