1-2 finishes in the Statistics table

How should 1-2 finishes in the Statistics table be counted? Should it be "the number of races where a Mercedes-powered team finished 1-2" (= how they are currently counted) or "the number of races in which the 1st and 2nd placed cars (not necessarily from the same team) were both powered by Mercedes engines" (which would result in the counts being larger for at least 2014 and 2024)? I think it should be "the number of races in which the 1st and 2nd placed cars (not necessarily from the same team) were both powered by Mercedes engines". If Mercedes-powered cars finish first and second, it is a 1–2 finish for the Mercedes power unit regardless of which teams used it, and this article is specifically about the power unit.
