Modern linux supports /etc/motd

[edit]

I just tested latest LTS version of Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS and even though file /etc/motd does not exists, creating such file with text will make it be displayed on next login.

"man motd" says: The contents of /etc/motd are displayed by pam_motd(8) after a successful login but just before it executes the login shell.

Therefore following article text can be removed/edited:

Unix-like systems: the /etc/motd file, though most modern Linux distributions do not support the /etc/motd file.[citation needed] 2A02:AB04:2BC1:8200:B7FF:AC73:11B4:5F6B (talk) 15:06, 2 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
