"Mirror, mirror on the wall..."

[edit]

From what I can tell, the original Grimm tale has it as "Spieglein, Spieglein an der Wand, / Wer ist die Schönste im ganzen Land?" The literal translation of this would be "Mirror, mirror on the wall, / Who is the most beautiful in the whole country?" This has been translated in various different ways, including "Magic mirror in my hand, who is the fairest in the land?" "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?" and in the Disney animated film, "Magic mirror on the wall, who is the fairest one of all?" There is a lot of confusion on which is the original and especially what was said in the English language Disney film, so I thought I'd check. Of course, considering the tale started out as oral tradition a good hundred years before the brothers Grimm wrote their version down I don't think anyone knows the true original wording. --Rimmer7 (talk) 10:20, 17 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
