Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on National Emergency Medal (Australia). Please take a moment to review my edit. You may add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it, if I keep adding bad data, but formatting bugs should be reported instead. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether, but should be used as a last resort. I made the following changes:

When you have finished reviewing my changes, please set the checked parameter below to true or failed to let others know (documentation at {{Sourcecheck}}).

NSW Fires 2019-20 possible hoax (Feb 2020)

[edit]

Yesterday page was modified to add a clasp for the current fires in NSW by an anonymous user. No references were provided. I can find no evidence that this clasp has been approved, and indeed it would be unlikely that a clasp would be approved with the end of the qualifying period specified in the future. The risk of significant distress to personnel currently or recently involved in the response is high if this information is false, therefore I've elected to delete it until it becomes clear if this is genuine or not. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:8004:1283:8D8A:E0AE:3BF3:6CA:9327 (talk) 02:50, 25 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Additionally, since the PM's announcement that a clasp will be declared for the recent/current fire season, someone took it upon themselves to decide on the names of four clasps for the fires (highly unlikely!!). So, unless you’re the Governor General please stop making stuff up! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:8004:E00:E56B:3489:46C1:C437:71F2 (talk) 01:21, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

COVID-19 and NEM sources sought (Mar 2024)

[edit]

There was an 01 Oct 2020 change.org petition, but I have some vague recollection circa 2021 for which I cannot find an authoritative source indicating a possibility that the emergency services' response to COVID-19 would become a clasp to the NEM. A result of a high level decision (again, would be in the Governor-General notes that we cannot access) that despite (for example) 100 days of COVID-19 response duties, it did not equate to 10 days of fires or floods, and that it was may not sit well with some members of the public who were subject to some of the response measures. (Hence why some states have created a state award.) Has anyone got an authoritative source, or where an RTI&P document may elicit?—Q8682 (talk) 07:58, 3 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It's inclusion in the article however may not be appropriate, given that its lack of recognition isn't itself noteworthy in this article. Australia provided defence, AFP and medical aid to most of the south pacific nations and no clasp was created for the Humanitarian Overseas Service Medal. Likewise state's have every right to create medals & awards of their own choosing, likewise state awards can be presented to anyone, in the same fashion of national awards. The 2010–2011 Queensland Flood and Cyclone Citation exactly mirrored the NEM 'QLD 2010–11' clasp, however covered the whole state and was awarded to everyone for a single days work, and then awarded to everyone who came from other states. Side note, I got one for just monitoring localised flooding. Nford24 (PE121 Personnel Request Form) 23:38, 3 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is noteworthy, if published sources can be located, as the event was suitable for an NEM citation, but public palatability drove it otherwise; thus controversy within agencies. Interestingly several Queensland agencies did not create another unit citation, and went with a state medal instead, to which future clasps will be issued (makes it easier for uniform wear). The QPS was just the first in Queensland.—Q8682 (talk) 13:26, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I haven’t been able to find any discussion of this in the mainstream media. If it hasn’t been discussed at that level at least, it doesn’t belong in the article. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 00:14, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
