Save The Contras

[edit]

I removed Save_the_Contras.jpg from this article. While that image may have been used/republished/something by the Office of Public Diplomacy (the image history is not real clear on this), it appears to have been originally published as an ad by the College Republican National Fund. See [1] for a readable version, including a copyright notice at the bottom. - Afiler (talk) 23:25, 24 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I would argue that the Save The Contras image is still a relevant image to this article. Even if it was not directly created by the OPD, it seems to me something typical of their function and work to disseminate it. For example, according to this article from the National Security Archive at George Washington University, the Young Republicans were "one of the groups under the cognizance of the Office of Public Diplomacy and discussed by Oliver North in a March 20, 1985 memorandum" http://www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/NSAEBB/NSAEBB40/ I take this to mean that the Young Republicans functioned as either a front group or 'useful idiots' of the OPD, either of which in my opinion would make the image still relevant to the article. I think the image is important because it shows exactly what the type of propaganda they were involved with looked like, whether they printed it themselves or designed it themselves is not as important in the same sense that if I ordered and/or paid for a successful murder, I can not somehow maintain that I am not a murderer, too (even though I did not pull the trigger myself).
