This article says:

In the study of stochastic processes, Palm calculus is the calculation of probabilities and expectations conditioned on a specified event.

That would mean Palm calculus is synonymous with finding conditional probabilities. We already have an article titled conditional probability. I don't disbelieve the assertion.

I'm glad you don't disbelieve the assertion :) I've made the first sentence clearer (it studies the relationship between conditional and time-average probabilities, not simply the former in isolation). It doesn't really matter who Palm was, but I gave you his first name anyway... Could you please remove the "disputed" tag, but leave the "expert needed" tag? Naming

Is "Palm calculus" a generally used term? I have come across "Palm measure", "Palm distribution", "Palm-Khintchine equations" ... would any of these be better? ... or alternatively, given specific mention here. Melcombe (talk) 11:00, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Palm distribution?

Campbell's theorem (probability) links to here, saying that

For general point processes, Campbell's theorem is only for sums of functions of a single point of the point process. To calculate the sum of a function of a single point as well as the entire point process, then generalized Campbell's theorems are required using the Palm distribution of the point process, which is based on the branch of probability known as Palm theory or Palm calculus.

This page doesn't discuss these generalized Campbell's theorems or Palm distribution - can something be added about them? Nonstandard (talk) 17:04, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
