All the links to "Monticello, IL" link to the wrong Monticello. Too lazy to fix this but thought I'd point it out. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.149.203.186 (talk) 15:05, 25 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion request

[edit]

Hi to who put the speed deletion request onto this page. Please give me two days or so to read up on WP criteria of how I have to write it such that it is obvious that these conferences are notable. In the meantime please consider that this is the birthplace or at least midwife of the Design Patterns movement which has had a major impact on the software industry. Links to write-ups in respected trade press would help.--agr (talk) 20:15, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I added one link, basically the first one ever, but there were many later ones, which I hope to add or will be added later. Dirk Riehle (talk) 22:46, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Consolidation/Disambiguation Discussion

[edit]

The discussion result was to merge PLOP into Pattern Languages of Programming.

  • Pattern Languages of Programming is a page on well, pattern languages, history, Alexander, etc.
  • Pattern Languages of Programming Conference is a page on what's currently on this page, i.e. it is about the conference
  • PLoP conference links to Pattern Languages of Programming Conference
  • PLoP links to PLoP conference
  • There is no PLOP page, only PLoP
  • There is no Pattern Languages of Programs page, only PL of Programming

Opinions? Dirk Riehle (talk) 17:03, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I believe:

  • The PLOP page should be merged into the Pattern Languages of Programming page.
  • Then PLOP should redirect to Pattern Languages of Programming.
  • The Pattern Languages of Programming page should be renamed to "Pattern Languages of Programs" since that's the actual name of the conference.

I checked a couple of examples: IRS redirects to Internal_Revenue_Service, DMV disambiguates to Department_of_Motor_Vehicles (among other things). So it seems clear that PLoP should disambiguate to a page that has the full name.
Next question for me is: Should the redirected-to page be "Pattern_Languages_of_Programming" or should it be "Pattern_Languages_of_Programming_Conference"?
As to PL of Programs vs. PL of Programming. I asked the board and Linda came back with the Hillside trademark PLoP stands for Pattern Languages of Programming. If you look at the Hillside webpage for PLoPs, you'll see both is used. Dirk Riehle (talk) 04:53, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

delinking from PLOP?

[edit]

You will notice I've put a type 4 otheruses template at the top of the Pattern Languages of Programs article page and have added PLate OPtimizer to the list of articles on the dabpage Plop. I thought of changing the redirects from PLOP and PLoP to the dabpage Plop. But it might be more simple to change the redirect link on PLOP to PLate OPtimizer rather than to Pattern Languages of Programs and leave PLoP alone. Is there significant feeling one way or the other about changing the redirects?Trilobitealive (talk) 19:14, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No preferences? I'm going to do the latter. PLOP will redirect to PLate OPtimizer and there will be an otheruses4 template on both articles. I'll leave PLoP alone. I think it is easier than more redirects to the Plop dabpage.Trilobitealive (talk) 15:02, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
