Who's Aideen Nicholson, and in whose cabinet did this person serve? HistoryBA 03:08, 28 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Aideen Nicholson was the Liberal MP for the riding of Trinity from 1974 to 1988. She held the portfolios of Consumer and Corporate Affairs (as well as Postmaster General) in the Trudeau government from 4 March 1980 - 30 September 1980.

Moon base

[edit]

Hellyer was on Tucker Carlson's show Dec 9, 2005, saying that the Bush administration is going to put a base on the Moon to counter attacks from extraterrestrials. Bubba73 (talk), 15:19, 10 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Conspiracy theorist

[edit]

Is it really neccesary to put Hellyer under that category? His views may be a little off centre, but I don't think he's alleging any sort of grand conspiracy. Also, his beliefs regarding ufo's are a very small part of his overall political worldview. If no one minds, I'll remove the category. 207.6.31.119 04:59, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No it is not necessary, and nobody has replied on this talk page since that complaint arose, and even if it existed it wasn't a defining characteristic, and WP:BLPCAT still applies. I have removed. Peter Gulutzan (talk) 14:48, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

UFOs and Global Warming

[edit]

He is now claiming that the US has alien technology which could be used to combat global warming. He is 83, so I would say he is going senile, but he has been saying things like this for years. When he was defense minister, didn't Canada have nuclear warheads on their anti-aircraft missiles? --Amcalabrese 17:08, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand why he doesn't advocate communicating with far away planet's directly, just beam some messages into space and see if someone more advanced replies back with a solution. Like that Russian dude is doing with active-SETI. All the Russian dude (Alexander Zaitsev) is doing is sending messages of peace out to the nearby star systems, when he should be asking the important stuff. :P Also, I find it very VERY eerie, and disturbing that the only messages the human race has sent out 1947 is one which will reach it's destination in twenty-five-thousand years. Like we're afraid of something.

Messages Beamed Into Space

I find this disturbing too. During all of human history we have only sent out 17 messages. THAT'S IT! (radio waves and television signals don't count, because by the time they reach a sentient planet, they'll be indistinguishable from background radiation. 24.56.247.13 (talk) 10:14, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Can I please point out that this page is for discussion of how to improve the article, and not to discuss UFOs, global warming, or even Paull Hellyer? Thanks. dougweller (talk) 12:01, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Wait, you think a talk page on Paul Hellyer is not a place to discuss Paul Hellyer? How very odd. 71.215.186.97 (talk) 20:24, 24 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Not at all. Doug is right. the Paul hellyer article is the place to put information about Paul Hellyer. The article talk page is for discussing the Paul Hellyer article, not the man. Wikipedia is not a discussion forum. Ground Zero | t 21:19, 24 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The Right Honourable?

[edit]

Since when has Mr. Hellyer been given the title of Right Honourable? Ctjj.stevenson (talk) 04:38, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Since he has been a member of the Privy Council! 81.129.175.158 (talk) 21:51, 18 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Here's the linkfarm growing wildly at the bottom of the page. They need pruning, and some of these can be brought into the article--others will be deleted, per WP:EL.

- Drmies (talk) 18:50, 29 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've once again removed a number of inappropriate links, all of which turned out to be repeated from the above cull, from this article's external links section. Again, links of this type may be cited as references, if the source is reliable and the content they're supporting is notable enough to merit mention in the article, but they do not belong as an uncontextualized list of offsite URLs under the external links heading. The external links section is only for the one or two most centrally important pages on the topic; for a political figure, that begins and ends at their own personal website and/or their parliamentary biography on the Parliament of Canada website — nothing else belongs in that section. New names for Navy and Air Force

[edit]

With the renaming of those services is someone going to update the page with that info? Seems his ideas were not thought that great by everyone. Bloggins762 (talk) 07:52, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed! It has been 3 years since this change was reversed, why has this not been noted on this page? Is it protected simply to protect the views of whomever protected it? Why the protection if the page isn't going to be updated with relevant information? If this isn't changed soon the protection should be removed. 71.212.17.179 (talk) 00:46, 23 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This article is missing Hellyer's work on monetary reform

[edit]

Hellyer is of the school that recommends reversion of the now privatized creation and control of the money supply (monetary power).

This is one of Hellyer's recent articles on this subject: "A 'Global Hope Plan' to End the Worldwide Financial Crisis" [1]

Hellyer's own web site is PaulHellyerWeb.com, on the home page of which he says that monetary reform is the single biggest issue that the world faces.

A related web site, Victory for the World: "was initiated by Andre Bernier, former member of parliament for Richmond-Wolfe, Hon. Paul Hellyer, former Minister of National Defense, Hon. Jack Murta, former Minister of State for Multiculturalism, Richard Priestman, past President of the Kingston Chapter of the Committee on Monetary and Economic Reform, Ray Stone, Broadcaster, and Keith Wilde PhD, economist,. . Edit request, 27 November 2013

[edit]

Please remove 'Some of the aliens hail from the "Zeta Reticuli, the Pleiades, Orion, Andromeda, and Altair star systems and may have different agendas" ' from the second to last line of the Extraterrestrial Issues section. I have listened to Hellyer's testimony from the Citizen's Hearing on Disclosure, and he never claimed to know where the ETs are from. It is a fabrication. Please insert 'Hellyer claims that there are several species of ETs that "may have different agendas." ' BicPentameter (talk) 01:27, 27 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Partly done: as the previous bullet already mentions the claim of four species, I've just used the words "these species". --Stfg (talk) 10:36, 27 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Not a fabrication. Listen to it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLOL82hwJjI Starts at 1:10

We don't give a flying fig what anybody said in a YouTube video. Ever. Bearcat (talk) 22:56, 26 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
To the previous poster, you should check the rules. I'd say a YouTube video of a broadcast featuring Hellyer speaking himself is pretty acceptable source. --uKER (talk) 00:08, 27 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, it can be presumed as an accurate record of what he said. But it's not enough to make what he said notable enough to warrant mention in an encyclopedia article in and of itself. If real media haven't given any of their attention to the statement, then we don't give a flying fig that he can be nominally verified through a primary source video clip as having technically said something. And further, we also have copyright issues to consider: even if the video were an actual news report from a reliable source media outlet, YouTube isn't the holder of the copyright on it and thus we still couldn't link to their copy in lieu of the real thing. Bearcat (talk) 15:27, 27 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I don't care about notability. Notability wasn't in question. Reliability of the source was. I don't get all your rambling about it being a primary source, or lack of media coverage. To me it looks like a piece of TV broadcast you're seeing there. Also, I wasn't aware of any rules that for a YouTube video to be cited as a source, YouTube had to be the copyright owner of the content. Can you cite that rule? --uKER (talk) 16:39, 27 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
WP:COPYLINK: "However, if you know or reasonably suspect that an external Web site is carrying a work in violation of the creator's copyright, do not link to that copy of the work.". And my comment about the issue of media coverage was not "rambling", either — for the comment to be notable enough to warrant being mentioned in his wikipedia article at all, it has to have been written about by media outlets after the fact as some form of news. Bearcat (talk) 19:30, 27 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Furthermore, Wikipedia is WP:NOT#JOURNALISM. This is a BLP, not tabloid journalism. It would only be notable (dependent on whether it would be deemed to be WP:DUE) if reliable third party sources reported on it. --Iryna Harpy (talk) 22:05, 29 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
