Nationality/ethnicity

[edit]

his parents nationality has no relevance. i am not sure why you keep including that. he was born in australia and raised in sweden and he represents sweden. his ethnicity is assyrian. iraqi is not an ethnicity and makes no sense to have "iraqi descent" on the page when iraq has many different ethnic groups. As discussed at WP:BLPN, source clearly says his parents are Assyrians from Iraq. GiantSnowman 16:13, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia has a policy MOS:ETHNICITY, stating that Ethnicity, religion, or sexuality should generally not be in the lead unless it is relevant to the subject's notability. Similarly, previous nationalities or the place of birth should not be mentioned in the lead unless they are relevant to the subject's notability. Based on this policy, we should refer to him in the lead with "is a Swedish professional footballer," since it is his current nationality. The cited article says "the teenager with the Iraqi-lineage", which is why the page had previously said that. However, I agree that Iraqi isn't an ethnic group, so we shouldn't say that. The previous version didn't say he was Iraqi - it said his parents were from Iraq and it had a category that he was of Iraqi descent. That information/category is WP:STABLE, we have one editor with a nationalistic agenda who has edit warred to remove it. The Iraq aspect should be restored, it is supported by a reliable source.
