Type of Government

[edit]

Is the Eritrean system of governance truly a republic? It would seem to me to not be a Presidential Republic because that requires that the legislature and executive branch be elected separately. As the election of the president is of the parliament by the parliament it would seem to me that it is a Parliamentary Democracy (at the very least in design if not practice). Also, there are no elections planned. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 159.182.1.4 (talk) 18:00, 12 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Important notice

[edit]

The government section of the "Outline of Eritrea" needs to be checked, corrected, and completed -- especially the subsections for the government branches.

When the country outlines were created, temporary data (that matched most of the countries but not all) was used to speed up the process. Those countries for which the temporary data does not match must be replaced with the correct information.

Please check that this country's outline is not in error.

If you have any questions or comments, please contact The Transhumanist .

Thank you.

1993 constitution

[edit]

Eritrea became fully independent in 1993 and thereafter began the process of creating a constitution (the 1997 one). I can't find any information about any prior constitutions. If anyone has any additional information about a pre-1993 constitution please add it to the article, specifically where the {{Clarify}} tag is placed in the lead section. Coinmanj (talk) 06:29, 1 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Eritrea had a prior Constitution in 1952 which described the powers of the Federated State of Eritrea within the Ethiopian Empire. Those rights were abridged until ultimate violation in 1962 by which time the Eritrean war for independence had already begun. That Constitution is in United Nations General Assembly Resolution 390 (v)199.16.196.1 (talk) 17:40, 1 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

2001

[edit]

According to Amnesty International in 2001,eleven leading members of the government were arrested and nine have reportedly since died in detention. Is it possible for someone to note this in the article.User Ruskin.

Eritrean opposition groups in exile

[edit]

This list seems to be on very shaky ground without any sources, it should probably be removed but I wanted to leave some time for anyone interested to clean up and source it. --AlexandraAVX (talk) 14:34, 4 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

SOB in lead

[edit]

Anyone have an idea as to how to fix the "presidential republican totalitarian dictatorship" (one link per word) MOS:SOB? Four is a bit much for the usual rephrasing technique. — Alien333 ( what I did
