Did the China-Macau border move?

[edit]

Wondering if anyone can tell me if this border today is different from the one prior to handover in 1999? Looking at old photos, the border seemed to have been exactly at the Portas do Cerco but today, the Macau immigration building is on the other side of the gate in what looked like Chinese territory prior to 1999. Am I correct? Slleong (talk) 17:16, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Date of the border gate.

[edit]

Previous articles stated that the gate was built in 1870. This was incorrect information and I have changed the date to 1849 which is what is written on the gate itself. It was a very important period in Macau, under Governor Amaral, who was assassinated that same year. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 126.114.232.178 (talk) 00:32, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

According to Jason Wordie and his book MACAO - People and Places, Present and Past, the border gate was built 1870 with an inscription of the 1849 event. --Azchael (talk) 15:06, 2 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
